How much oil to run in an inverted Porsche 930?

Much appreciated! But, I did the exact same experiment on my own tranny last month and posted photos too, only I can't remember where I posted them. I came to the same conclusion that you did though.

Ah, I never saw that, I would have thought this thread would have been the appropriate place to post that...

Did you guys break something to make you take it out of the car and tear it down?

C'mon Ron, you know better than that! ;) These trans don't break! No, it was all good, just fitted some closer ratios as I found I never used 1st and 4th was miles too high. Standard ratios are ideal for a road car though.

Oil Type - what sort of oil are you guys running in your 930s? We're doing fluids and all for the 13hr and I was thinking some sort of synthetic GL5.

Wanni made a comment a while back that it was important to maintain an oil temp of 70°/90°c, no more, since your goung to be running a non synthetic this is a very valid point. Wanni made it in reference to expansion of the trabns case etc & maintaining settings etc.

Setrab oil cooler/paterson 400 filter/Tilton oil pump going on my SL-C
with the inverted 930LSD. I figure that should do it. I'll keep the pump manually switched.

Ended up using some non-synthetic Valvoline oil, same as last time. The unit has an oil cooler, but until we added that heat shield between the transaxle and muffler we were running too hot, around 230F. Lately temps have been good, say 180-200F on hot days.

Should be good. Worked on the car all day today crossing ts and dotting is. Two weeks to the hour to the END of the 13 hour race.

For the Aussies looking for this Swepco stuff (Albins use it)

The 930 Gear Box is SWEPCO 201 80w/90 grade. Price is $112.00 per unit 3.785 Litre Plus GST.

CV joint and Wheel Bearing grease is the SWEPCO 101 Moly Grease NLGI 2 Grade. Price is $28.00 per 409 gram tube Plus GST
( each CV joint needs appx 90 grams ). Wheel bearings should be a one third pack only with a light smear on non working surfaces to minimise corrosion.
