Is there anybody out there ?

Not much going on in the GTD 40 Club section.
Lets start talking,
Who's building at the moment ?
Who racing ?
who's dead ?
who should be dead ?
where are the old guys ?
What are you driving if not a forty ?

" Is there anybody out there "

Keith, talking to Roy and others it appears that the club has effectively died, which is a great pity. According to Andrew there are still some resources available, but we need someone to ressurect it, particularly the track and competition side of things - want the job ? Frank

Wendy and I were thinking of holding a reunion BBQ at our place later this year after a discussion with Jan Parker, where basically we were reminiscing about the good ol' days of the competition crowd socials that were such fun.

Probably do this in September for anyone who took part in a GTD club competition event and hopefully people can bring their cars over too!

As a member of the old club(before I had my car) I think it's a shame the club has died.

Perhaps it's time to try and get the 2 UK based clubs to merge and get track days organised again.

I know there was bad blood between them in the past but perhaps now there has been enough water under the bridge andwe can all join in and work together.

Cheers

Ian,

(Speaking entirely from a personal perpsective) I know there are many people with those same sentiments. I too was a member of both clubs, and attended a number of GTD Club events/attended events.

However even when a member I always thought things would have been better with a single club, uniting all. There has been a higher focus on track days etc. within the GT40 Enthusiasts Club in recent times, so maybe this now caters for the requirements for all?

(These are my personal opinions only, not comments from the Club/Committee)

Now there's some food for thought Frank,
Keep the communication coming folks

Regards Keith

very good video - thanks for posting. Seems there was more enthusiasm for group events in those days.

Did my ears deceive me, or did I hear the unmistakable sound of a 350 Chevy in there somewhere? If I closed my eyes and listened again, it sounded just like my old Camaro...

But, the SBF's sounded the business....

There was one, a good bit deeper and not so smooth - could it have been the yellow one?

Haven't checked again but it sounded different. There again I am old and a bit mutton.

That is a great video and bloody well done. Great editing and some fantastic footage. Looks like one helluva day out too. The thing I like about it the most is that all the cars are replicas (I assume) but they all sound and really look the part dont' they. Makes me want to go get in mine and thrash the living S**T out of it. Marvelous stuff and thanks for posting.

Sorry, no Chevy engines on that trip. The yellow car is Robin Batt's and had a good 302 in it. No way would Robin ever chuck a chevy into his GTD! An explanantion would probably be that people were not all running a standard GTD exhaust systems. A cross over system cf a non cross over system is very different sounding and different makes will also sound different as well as different states of tune. Then add the accoustic back drop into the mix. But no chevy's on that trip!

And Phil should have done a decent jo on the video, it was his day job! I went up to his editing suite, most likely completely out of date equipement now but then it was impressive stuff. Top Gear also used some of the footage to promote a various artistes cd they released many years ago. Buggers changed the colour of my car from Gulf colours to purple if I remember correctly!

But it was a fab trip and is a cherished memory.

I wonder what happened to all the photos that the police have when we all went past the speed camera in Belgium in convoy at about 90 mph? :)

Im a new member to this forum but my family has owned a GTD 40 for 23 years. I recently was driving it in my hometown in MASS and I was hit in the rear by a SUV. Needless to say there was alot of cracked fiberglass. We decided to take the opportunity to repaint the entire car and fix it up a bit since it is 23 years old. It originally was white with Blue stripes and we are going to paint it the Gulf racing colors. Has anyone else painted their GTD in these colors? Here are a few pics of the GTD from a few years back.

I did mine in the Gulf colours.....thought about all sorts of different schemes but kept coming back to that......and to be honest I'm sure I made the right decision. The cars look fantastic when all graphics etc are on.

On the subject of the two clubs......I was a member of GT40 Enthusiasts Club a few years back.....and I could never get my head around the two clubs (I don't want to know the history either!).

Surely there are few enough of us as it is......one club just seems to make so much more sense.......?

Sorry Malcolm, couldn't resist.....:quirk:

Not far wrong Keith, and I think it awful when you get a row of gulf cars next to each other as none of the blues or oranges match! Of course my blue and orange are the correct ones.....

I think that red is the next colour that is over subscribed IMHO. If I want a red car I will buy a ferrari!
