KVA Steering rack Question's/Difference's

I have recenly started playing with my new purchase, A MK1 KVA on a type C chassis.

I have removed a Ford Escort Steering rack from it, but was thinking of replacing it with a Ford Cortina MK3,Mk4,Mk5 RHD steering rack.

Are the Cortina Racks any better?
Is there any difference between the two?

Also if i fit something like a mountney steering wheel and bose kit, where could i get a gt40 centre piece from, and would you normally have indicator stalks or are they located else where,

Indicator stalks come out of the dash R/H side.
But if you plane on road registering you need to look at UK rules at they may require self cancelling.

I was looking on tornado sports car today. Has any one used their steering setup. If so what do you think to it. Is it worth the money. As i can get a cortina or escort rack cheaper.

Nik,

To the best of my knowledge your car was designed to take an Escort rack. The ball joints within the rack are most probably a different spacing than a Cortina. By using another rack could alter the handling. My advice would be if you need to change the rack, then fit the same as you have.

I spoke to the gt40 one and only previous oener earlier and he was telling me that he thinks a escort rack has less turn lock to lock than a cortina one. But size wise the are very close.

I think You can`t get as quick Cortina rack internals as for Escort.
Escort mk1/2 are originally 3,5 turns, quick ones You can choose 1,7-2,5 (most common are 2,5 and 2,2 turns).
Cortina std is around 3,5-4 turns, and if my memory serves me well, Quaife (?) sold 2,5 turns quick rack around 10-15 years ago.
Escort parts are still in production for sure.
