Tony's GT40 Mk1 build

Guys,

There are always trade offs in life - I call them pluses and minuses. After driving a GT40 mainly on weekends that sits 40 in. off the ground, siting between two gas tanks, no bumpers - I think if I had to do it all over again, I would opt for the full roll cage and take my chances with bumping my head. I've attached a design which I think would minimize the head bumps.

Unfortunately, it's too late for me to add one to my GT40.

John

Was advised bij SouthernGT not to go for a full cage as these can kill you during a roll over. Only go for a half cage rear hoop with supports to the rear.

SouthernGT chassis has this type rollcage allready incorporated.

On a normal racecar a six point cage has top sidebars along the roofrail. On a GT40 its impossible so the front hoop is only supported in the middle and the sides of the front hoop will bend inwards during a roll over leaving you clamped with a front hoop in your face..
