So... what was THE reason: the room constrains or the potential customer feedback? I understand the packaging reasoning, if can’t fit, it can’t fit. But “customer feedback” is a different story, I know of several (mature…) DSM enthusiasts who lost interest in APEX because of drivetrain change...

This Talon was one man's exersise in design and fabrication, to do something most peope said was impossible. And it was great, as such! However, it is a terrible concept for a viable vehicle... Doing this to an APEX, in its currently proposed configuration, would be no easier than doing it...

The problem is that in addition to the kit car building project, it now becomes an egine swap project. I have done a couple of 4G63 swaps, and I can attest that it isn't easy and much bigger project than it appears on the surface. And I am not currently looking to do another engine swap...

Thank you for your response, Fran. Sorry, I must have missed the FB update. Unfortunately, I have zero interest in getting into VW powertrain. I am way too invested in the 4G63 to pick-up another platform, so it is back to searching for me (and many other 4G63 enthusiasts). VWs have even...

Fran, I do not believe that I saw you answer this question: will there be a 4g63 option supported by RCR?

For all who are questioning kit car market viability, just take a quick look at 818! They are selling ALL they can build with a huge wait list! I am not going to mention the looks, as those are subjective, but 818 is much more of a “toy” car, than Apex, but basically cost the same money! The...

I am saddened by the potential drivetrain change :(. There are already so many V8 kits on the market. 4G63 made Apex extra special to many... I really hope this doesn't happen.

There are many reasons why DSMs have a bad rep, some are deserving, while others are simple ignorance. First, some real problems: 1. 4G63 is an interference engine with a tricky timing belt tensioning procedure. Many very experienced mechanics screw it up, usually because they rely...

Previous record holder (Mike R) raced his 4g63 from 40k-90k, over 10+ years, he stated out with ~350whp and went up to ~650whp. He has 400+ 1/4 mile passes on his short block. The only modifications are: balance shaft removal and ARP head studs. Though, he does have a built head with cams...

"More active" is quite an understament! ;). How about: "given us anything that we can't see at every junk yard" :) You guys are killing us with lack of information!!!

I think this photo will give you a needed visual: We talked about this 4G63 powered Fiero before. 4G63 should fit in Apex in a very similar manner. Only... Looks like access to the engine will be even more restricted than it is on the Fiero.

DSM 4G63 would have exhaust between the engine and the firewall (on front of the engine). However, if you really want to flip it around, you might be able use EVO4-9 cylinder head and place the exhaust in the rear of the engine. I am not sure if anyone has done this before, but it should be...

Erik P was THE Pioneer of putting 4g63 into RWD vehicles. But this 911 is very different from the Apex, because of 911's transmission, it is using north/south engine configuration. Greg's Friero is much closer to the Apex: http://www.gt40s.com/forum/416628-post1301.html

Correct, he raced at Loring, Maine. I have no idea if they will be back there because of the fatal crash.

Roof rails is the worst thing, but there are other differences. Also he ran 1.5 mile event in Maine, which might have different rules from TX mile. He used a stock AWD 5th gear and reved it to 9500rpm. There is one DSMer who did lots of TX mile racing in EVO1 (or 2 or 3), look up Mike...
