Chuck:
I spoke with you about your Cayman. Unfortunately, I thought it was a 2009. I am planning on putting a larger engine in it and it needs to be a DFI car - which were sold 2009 and later. The car is very nice. Had it been a 2009, I would have made an offer today.
Best regards,
Mike
I had a 550 with a Subaru Turbo motor. It looked great and was fast but it was a bit scary to drive quickly. There are some videos of it on youtube - YouTube - Vintage 550 Porsche Spyder - Subaru 2.0 Turbo II
The suspension was not very confidence inspiring.
If you intend to drive it fast...
Here are some recent pictures. The car looks great in person. The interior materials are really nice - I'll save those pics for later when it is more complete. Great job Fran!
Cliff, that car is long gone. Sold it to a guy in the Netherlands. I bought the car after seeing one of the Beck cars in Fran's shop. At that time, I Fran also had the 904 body and the real 904. I wanted Fran to do the 904 - but he was not ready so I bought a used 550 for $30k.
I never buy...
I had a 550 Spyder from Vintage with a 2.0L Subaru Turbo JDM. While the power was nice, the sound was wrong for the car. I think that the sound of 2.5 L NA might be better suited to a 904 and/or 550.
The bigger problem with the 550 was the suspension (scary at speed) and the brakes.

Not using early 911 power because of my last project. It was an Intermeccanica 59 Carrera GT Speedster with a 2.7 RS from a 73 911. The Webers were impossible. They sounded great for a week or so and then I'd have problems. There are no good early Porsche mechanics in our area that I could...
I am running 385 hp (320 torque) in my Boxster (911 997 X-51 Engine) with no problems. I upgraded the clutch to a Sachs Sport. I track the car often with no problems.
Guys on Caymanclub also turbocharge the 3.4L with an upgraded clutch - no failures so far. ( I think that they are making in...
My father was one of the engineers who worked on the Chrysler Turbine cars. He developed the transmissions. His main problem with them was the power output was largely dependent upon intake air temperature. If I remember correctly, power output was half at higher temperatures.
They knew in...
