    Header Wrap

Short answer is don't! I had to replace thick walled exhaust manifold, turbine housing and dump pipe on my rotary turbo after only 1 - 2 years, and it was only a weekend/competition car. That was all due to heat wrapping. Header wrap is the best way to keep heat contained, but will do bad...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Well, I come from the point of already having the car setup and running with an 016, but if I was starting again, I'd go the G50 or similar! The other problem I have is there is not enough room behind the trans to space it back another 25 - 50 mm to get the existing 944...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Cheers Pete, I've come to a similar sort of conclusion after having measured my Audi input shaft on the weekend and looked at many photos of 944 input shafts online. I'll have to machine down the 944 shaft (easy) and get it resplined smaller to match my Audi pressure...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Thanks for the info Pete. I've got the 9" clutch setup from the KEP - Audi adapter kit at the moment. It would be best to keep it as it works well, other than change the clutch disc obviously. I just need to carefully measure the throw out bearing and splined area on my...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Hmm, interesting Pete. I've been told by the people that race old 944's that the pinion failures on 944 boxes (same as 016) are quite common as they get older, never mind with the kind of torque I'm putting through it. So your idea of getting a 944 Turbo box and tweaking...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Well, the initial verdict is in. Spent today (in 39 deg heat!) pulling trans. Once out removed axles (both fine) and pulled the diff side plate. It's stripped half the pinion teath clean off! Which is good news as the gearbox itself should be OK then. Rolls over through...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Interesting. For my purposes a lot of events are either hillclimbs or quite short tracks, where I'm lucky to get out of 3rd gear (assuming 3rd runs to around 150 kph). So for me, short gearing is fine. For the 5 or so events I did manage to compete in last year the 016...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Re: Audi 016 goes Bang! Cheers for the thoughts everyone. I can get a G50 or G50/50 easily enough, but the costs to convert to add up very quickly. Though I will sell off the KEP adapter kit, clutch, starter and Quaife LSD to help a bit. I've been wondering if it is worth the extra to get a...

    Audi 016,Porsche 944,Re-spline of 016

Managed to get a loud bang, followed by unhappy noises as I coasted to a stop the other day. My Audi 016 in my DRB GT40 is now not happy, and neither am I! Will pull the trans on the weekend and have a look, but I'm not optimistic about what I'll find. It was toughened up with a case stiffening...

    G50 Porsche Trans Wanted

Hi all, Just managed to make the 016 trans in my DRB GT40 go bang, just after I got the motor tuned happily on the dyno. Made 386 RWHP on a hot day, so happy with motor, not so with gearbox! Anyways, point being, I need to find another trans that is tough enough to deal with that power on...

    Accu sump

Can't see why you couldn't use it as a pre-oiling system with a dry sump. But, if you have a dry sump setup, then you should never have an oil pressure loss, unless the pump drive belt comes off I guess.

    Accu sump

I put a 3 quart version on my GT40 with 347 motor after losing oil pressure and killing a crank. Works well - holds 2 bar on the race track around corners. I used the high flow electric valve (35 psi version), a manual override off switch and a one way valve. Tried it without the one way valve...

    Hillclimb Photos

Thanks for replies. Been away working and not checking forum. Yes, I thought you were running 265's (or similar) front and rear Chris, and your photos tend to confirm more or less equal tyre widths. I've got all the theories and basics sorted. Have plotted front and rear caster/camber/bump...

    Hillclimb Photos

Chris, Yep, it does get reasonable grip and so roll is not hurting it too much despite how it looks. Suspension geometry is pretty good, so a bit of roll won't be hurting. No suspension developement as yet. I keep chasing engine problems! Anyways, haven't done a competition wheel alignment...

    Hillclimb Photos

Hi, Some photos taken of my DRB GT40 at a hillclimb a couple of weeks ago. Course was very tight at the top, but still did well for it's first hillclimb. 12th outright and 1st in class. Mostly beaten by 4WD's and open wheeler hillclimb racers. I'll get them, after a slow and expensive (no...

Simple - turbo or supercharge whatever engine you use. Then you won't have much of a power loss at altitude...

    LS1 engine in a GT40

Graham, You'll need power and a decent amount not to feel slow after your 996 turbo. My 1105 kg (ready to go, no driver), 380 RWHP 347 Ford (Boss block, Ali heads, 8 stack efi, solid roller cam etc) does not get away from you. Sure it is quick, and will break traction in 2nd gear in a straight...

Accusump (Canton) electric valve orientation ?

Just fitted an Accusump to my 347 engined GT40. First track event was about 3 weeks ago and it worked well. Oil surge around corners now results in accusump holding decent (30 psi) pressure to engine.

    DRB #67 Sprint Event Videos

Just posted on youtube a couple of videos of DRB #67 at the WA Sprint Championship that was held on Sunday just gone. Was the first time I've been able to start to push the car reasonably hard. Went well enough, but a long way to go. Had a top end misfire at around 6500 RPM and needs a fair...

    289/302-Wet or Dry sump Best?

Yeah, well if I could go back in time I may have bit the bullet and sorted out a dry sump system first up. But pretty much all cars I compete with have wet sumps and my previous competition car did also with no bearing damage. I'm just a bit dissapointed that a supposed competition oil sump did...
