Renault Un1-13 throwback through gear shift

Last time I had that the diff had spat two teeth out

    New Transaxle Option

I was looking at your box a while ago, very interesting design, it'd be great flipped over for low outputs for us Safari boys, my budget doesn't stretch that far though :D

    UN1 Output shaft on GTD

It's pretty common, most of the time the parts are so oversized it doesn't matter, but when you start pushing things harder they become a huge issue. My axles have the circlip grooves on the outside and then the CV stars are counterbored to fit over them - so even if you're tight on space it's...

    UN1 Output shaft on GTD

Stress fracture from the circlip groove - you're better having the groove on the outside of the CV joint if you have space to do it - then there's no square edged groove right in the most loaded area.

    Which OIl

I run Millers CRX 75w90 NT in my UN5's, seem to give decent protection without making the shift too bad (Syntrans makes the shift better when cold but resulted in more wear on the diff when I tried it, but bear in mind the '5 is a much bigger diff and under way more loading than road/track cars...

U_joint on wheel side cv joint on diff/gearbox side

Just run a couple of 930 CV's with the chromoly race cages and stars designed for the offroaders, I'd be amazed if you're running more angle than they will take:

U_joint on wheel side cv joint on diff/gearbox side

It's even worse than just two U-joints because you can't put them out of phase to cancel each others vibrations out somewhat.

Anyone interested in a LSD for the UN5?

Rather dead thread, but if anyone wants a cheaper option, then Elite are offering a LSD for the UN1 that can also be adopted to fit the UN5 as well - I'm just having one sorted for our UN5 atm, about the same price as a Quaife.

Use of high tensile bolts. ( RCR40 )

I swear by Nord-Locs, they've solved a lot of issues for me with CV bolts, skidpan bolts, etc, coming loose over the years with the offroad impacts on them.

Use of high tensile bolts. ( RCR40 )

Perhaps, but the bolt should be loaded in pure tension, the inserts in your suspension joints/bushes should be taking any and all shear loads. I also saw someone mention spring washers but I can't see it now - split spring washers on structural bolts are a complete waste of time - they won't...

Use of high tensile bolts. ( RCR40 )

Yes. The friction from the clamp load should be taking all the design loads. In an impact the assembly can move with the hole tolerance without immediate failure, and the bolt can bend and distort in heavier impacts to take energy out without snapping and causing a bigger problem. And you don't...

    EPAS install

It'll take more shock load than it did before, where it would have kicked your hands or wobbled the wheel over a kerb or a pothole.

    EPAS install

And the rack itself. I've had to rebuild racks once a year on cars using assisted columns - the same racks on the same cars do 10-15 years on a hydraulic ram...

Use of high tensile bolts. ( RCR40 )

10.9 for anywhere corrosion/crack sensitive, 12.9's everywhere else. Aluminium rivets since the majority of rivet work is just aluminium panelwork anyway. Clearance holes for all bolted assemblies as otherwise you're cutting things out with an angle grinder after any on track/stage bumps and...

Anyone know where to get this style of small 930 CV boot?

Thanks for the replies all, unfortunately none of the other boots are suitable - long off-road boots are too large and get nipped because I have through-bearing CV's - and the tin housings for aero boots hit the driveshafts on droop: Fortunately it turns out that of all things a Vauxhall...

Anyone know where to get this style of small 930 CV boot?

This small one EMPI list - I need a UK stockist - or a part number for the same that cross references to a different manufacturer? https://www.kartek.com/parts/empi-86-2227-porsche-930-small-rubber-cv-axle-boot-for-ktk8693020-or-ktk930sdbf-double-boot-flanges.html

    Nylon Bushings

As above, use the 'Oilon' nylon grade for suspension bushings, or if the wallet stretches, 'Nylube' is even better.

Help with 930 CV joint boots

I bond our boots to the flanges with polyurethane adhesive, never had any trouble with them leaking grease, using about 24* of joint angle IIRC

new un1 synchro upgrade, better/faster gearchange

If they'd fit the UN5 'box I'd like a set for 2nd, 3rd and 4th if possible if you do some more. If you think they're sluggish at 6000rpms you want to try them at 10krpm

Coilover "Hats" - Availabiity for Thicker ones?

Never seen any off the shelf, looked for some but never found any, ended up making some a while back that went the other way (were shorter to slide in for smooth race use, then standard ones went back on for rougher tracks)
