Filters - The Paddock and Off Topic Banter

Just to clarify my question, under "Paddock" in the Forums list it says: "Off Topic forum where anything goes!", and I was wondering if tweaking that a bit might catch the eye of those (me included) who haven't read all the forum rules.

Filters - The Paddock and Off Topic Banter

Ron- I have enjoyed discussing shared interests (such as aviation) with other forum members in the paddock, and I think that fosters a feeling of community. I'd hate to see that go out with the bathwater. Would it be possible to put a note, perhaps under the forum name, to the effect that no...

    GT40 P/1061 detail photos

Thanks for posting these, Mike and they're pretty good for a cell phone! I've got a couple of questions: that looks like a 289/ZF in the back, but those tires and flares look to me more like the J-Car's. Is that just a memory lapse on my part? Second, it appears like that's a heat shield...

Is this a Cobra Look Alike?

I wholeheartedly agree. But at least it's better than the Datsun 240s disguised with glued-on panels to resemble the Ferrari GTO---almost a sacrilege.

A quick prayer would be appreciated

We're fine, thanks-the wind held. We did get an evacuation order but it was rescinded within the hour.

I assume from that wonderful noise that you are pleased with the sound level and quality as well! Thanks for sharing.

A quick prayer would be appreciated

Guys- The Tri County Fire is contained, and I got to drive down one of the roads out of here (two of the three had been closed as too dangerous for traffic since the fire began). Black on either side of the road as far as you could see for about ten miles out of Magnolia, and much of it lined...

    Safety Warning UK Builders

Thank you Ian. Don't know if discs sold in the US have an expiration date, but I'm going to check mine asap! On the subject of shop safety, I have read that the most dangerous tool in the shop is the drill press.

A quick prayer would be appreciated

Gentlemen- Thank you all very much for your words of encouragement and your prayers. They are appreciated more than you can know. This morning, as a result of over 400 firefighters from around the country, and especially the guys from California who came in to manage things and are really...

A quick prayer would be appreciated

My wife and I are making piles of those things we would take with us if the evacuation order comes-- things the kids made for you when they were little--like that. The fires are still 5-10 miles away, but if the wind shifts, you don't have much time to spend wandering around, wondering what...

    Exhaust bracket

Thank you, James. It looks like the supports just cradle the collectors while the bosses at the bottom allow for some slight side-to-side freedom of movement. I'm curious about the heads in your photos- they have the screw-in studs like a HiPo 289, but the rockers look stock to me. At any...

    Exhaust bracket

On both Doc's pictures (easier to see in the second), just even with the ZF's "ears" on both sides it looks like there are support rods attached to the exhaust collectors. Is that what they are?

One for the pilots amongst us.

Good one, David. We come up on "Winchester" -- 303.0 Mhz, when we were doing illegal ACT in T-38s during pilot training. Very immature "Hey Rube!" and "Rat-a-tat-tat", mostly. Back then we had no separation regs, and T-38s climbed and descended to base on the same TACAN radials. The "Big Sky"...

    Motorsport magazines, free!

Ron- Magazines, maybe, but books? It's probably a pathological condition but I can't get rid of a book. I still have the copy of "The Technique of Motor Racing" that I bought in '64 to go with my first car, a TR-3a. Leafing through it is a pleasant reminder of being 17 and driving an open...

Math expert need to solve simple problem

An easy algebra problem is, given Y=X^2 (Y equals X squared) solve for X. The answer, as any modern Major General knows, is: X= +/- Y^.5 (X equals plus or minus the square root of Y). So, can any math major out there tell me why this simple equation has no solution for X as a function of Y...

    where are the Arabs happy?

David- I think you're right about the "Irish Problem" -with the exception of a banking system modeled on Tammany Hall.

    where are the Arabs happy?

David- Personally, I think the unhappiness results from envy and an endemic hatred of Jews in particular and the West in general, not where they happen to live. Hatred destroys the human capacity for happiness. Something we Irish know too well.
