Mocal One Way Check Valve - experience

Hi Joacim, the one I used came from Speedflow and in my application I used it to prevent a reverse flow into my header tank In your proposed application, this type of valve should be fine, but I'd be looking at either a -8 or -10 valve to minimise any restrictions Regards, Andy

Mocal One Way Check Valve - experience

Hi Joacim, I've had one of those in my fuel system for the last 3 years without any issues Regards, Andy

How to properly plumb and fill Quaife Transaxle when using external cooler pump and cooler?

Hi Skip, personally I wouldn't be concerned about this issue, the oil seals on the output & input shafts will retain the oil. Generally the oil fill on these type of transmissions is to the centre-line of the diff, so adding an oil cooler won't be an issue Regards, Andy

    Tornado GT40 in Texas

Hi Bob, An excellent report on the basics of cooling, all of which is common practice in the auto industry today. A couple of other points to look at are: Air management on the exit of the cooling pack. Exit area should always be greater than the entry area. Exit air is at a lower pressure, so...

Distance between starter motor gear and flywheel gear

Hi, You should be able to measure this yourself by winding out the pinion gear on the throw-out mechanism ( Bendix) Regards, Andy

Distance between starter motor gear and flywheel gear

Hi Joacim, You need to be setting the starter motor on the engaged position into the ring gear, not the idle position. This way the correct engaged position, which is the important bit, will be correct Regards, Andy

    Cooling ewp & command center

Hi Paul, most after-market ECU's will have an integral PWM controller that is required for these pumps. I'm currently building another '40 and the coolant system is setup for a Pierburg CWA400 pump. These pumps are used on main-stream products these days and this particula pump is used on BMw...

    GT-Forte GTs40 build

Hi David, if you've a metal turning lathe, you can make your own wooden gear knob. Yes, it's messy, but nothing an air-line won't clean out and you've gained another skill. This was my attempt: https://www.gt40s.com/threads/norfolk-tornado.24109/post-522404 Regards, Andy

Southern GT Chassis #54 Build - The What Have I Done Chronicles!!

Hi Shaun, I did a retro-fit of a crank senor (Magnetti Marelli sensor as part of an Emerald ECU upgrade) on a SGT with no major issues. There's enough room to get the TV damper off in situ and the sensor brkt used a couple of the front cover mounting holes Regards, Andy Andy

    Any ideas?

Hi Shaun, check the cold start fuel enrichment, sounds like it's not getting enough fuel - it's 5Ltrs remember.... Regards, Andy

    5speed

Hi Robert, You will need a close examination of all the parts in the system. You are looking for any movement in a joint, bearing or lever that does not contribute to the movement of the gear selector. The easiest way is to lock the selector rod on the transmission (put it into a gear) and then...

Oil Pressure Reading On Cranking Over

Well done Shaun, It's all about small victories Andy

Oil Pressure Reading On Cranking Over

Hi Shaun, You shouldn’t have any problems getting 2-3 bar oil pressure when cranking for the first time with the spark plugs removed. An oil mechanical gauge is a really good idea. I would also remove the oil cooler & adapter until you know the basic oil pressure is present, as its less...

    Norfolk Tornado

Hi Bob, I never tested the effect of equal vs. unequal length headers, as I knew equal length headers from a design perspective would be the way to go. Having equal length headers will have an effect on the performance, but not much on acoustics. The biggest difference between the video and...

    5speed

Hi, before stripping the trans to diagnose the issue, ensure that the shift mechanism is in good condition, with no lost motion in the system, as this is and the shift linkage needing adjustment, being the likely reason for difficult gear selection Regards, Andy

    Headlight Cover Sealing/Mods?

Hi, paint the black border onto the covers yourself with acrylic paint and then add a sealing strip below the border. There's a bit more detail in my build log - see attached link https://www.gt40s.com/threads/norfolk-tornado.24109/post-449724 Regards, Andy

Plug and play loom for 302 EFI

Hi Chris, There’re no real issues running batch fired injectors, unless you’re trying to meet the ultra-tight emissions regulations. The only way you’d tell the difference is on an emissions drive cycle, and this would be after many hours on an engine calibrating the base spark & fuelling With...

Plug and play loom for 302 EFI

Hi Jack, I’ve built engines for ‘40s with ECU’s from Emerald and SCS-Delta. Both companies can provide an engine loom with a pre-terminated ECU plug. These are then cut to length to the relevant components. I then add a multi-pin bulkhead connector (ITT Cannon), which makes installation and...

Plug and play loom for 302 EFI

Hi Jack, I wouldn’t get too hung expensive & complicated ECU’s If you’ve got a cross-over exhaust system, a twin oxygen sensor will struggle to function correctly as it’s taking information from both banks and won’t be able to discriminate which cylinder to change the fuelling on. A single wide...
