    W8 and Corvette Transaxle?

Okay, but with a reeeally short engine (like, a turbocompounded rotary from a Mazda), the new transaxle from the latest Corvette looks awfully good . . . Sigh . . . .

SL-C panels done in carbon fiber...

In this video, Christian von Koenigsegg, the maker of the Koenigsegg Agera R, explains a little bit about their carbon fiber parts manufacturing. In this video he explains the effort needed to make one simple part: a tube. In the video, Mr. Koenigsegg says, "It's really a labor-intensive...

SL-C panels done in carbon fiber...

If you search the Superlight forum, you will find at least 491 mentions of money. Four hundred ninety one. The vast majority of these references say something like this: "I'd like to get _____, but I cannot afford it." We dream about clothing our SL-C's with carbon fiber, but it is...

SL-C panels done in carbon fiber...

Well, since we are all in la-la land, talking about carbon fiber and zillions of dollars . . . Fran, did you ever think of making the rest of the SL-C from composite materials? That might result in a significant loss of weight from that heavy aluminium . . . Bassanio et Portia :-)

How high is your steering wheel?

Dean: The reticence of the forum to answer may lie in the title of your thread: how "high" is your steering wheel? Some of us may not wish to disclose publicly what controlled substances our steering wheels are using . . . . :-) Bassanio et Portia :-)

    Shape of cars to come

"Open source". Hmmm. What about a roadgoing DeltaWing, with enough ground clearance for the road and for speedbumps?

Dean's SLC track test and tune

Dean your write-up is fantastic! You let us know what you are thinking, what you are feeling, what the car is doing, what you are seeing, it's great! That car is fast, man! Think about: I mean, really THINK about it: you might one day be able to lap Hallet as fast as an Ariel Atom! WOW...

    Keeping it Lite

A Wankel engine, or better yet, a turbocompounded 2-rotor Wankel engine will save you a lot of weight, as well as give you better fuel consumption. It is a time-tested, reliable solution. Turbo Bassanio et Portia :-)

The above article from DieselPower Magazine was only slightly edited, from an SL-C point of view. :-) Full disclosure, Bassanio et Portia :-)

Building a center dash display - feedback?

Thanks, Mark: that's good to know. I post mainly to inspire, to show direction, to point the way. And look at all the SL-C owners have come up with: the basic foundations of visual, non-mechanical representations of data, non-physical (meaning haptic with your caveat) interaction with the car...

FRAN!!!! I need a longer wheelbase!

Dave, if only you would turbocompound the two-rotor that comes with the RX-8, you won't need those other four rotors. :-) Even though Wankel rotary engines are, as you so rightly pointed out, much simpler and more reliable than piston engines, a turbocompoounded two-rotor would weigh less, be...

Building a center dash display - feedback?

Haptic Controls Sweet! Haptic controls are virtual. No parts exist to wear or break. They weigh nothing. Talk about "adding lightness"! A haptic switch looks like a switch, it feels like a switch, When you "press" the haptic switch, you "see" it move in and out, you "feel" it with your...

Building a center dash display - feedback?

Helmet-Mounted Displays Some displays dispose with large displays placed far away on some exterior panel and put the information right into the "driver"'s (pilot's) helmet. It is called, imaginatively enough a Head-Mounted Display (HMD) Here is an HMD on an Apache helicopter pilot. Do you...

Building a center dash display - feedback?

HUD As you can see from the post above, the militaries put the most important information, the information that changes the most, on a Heads Up Display (HUD). Some automotive companies already have a basic HUD in their cars. The JAS-39 Gripen or a Eurofighter Typhoon sports a large HUD...

Building a center dash display - feedback?

I am interested in what forms you will display the data. I watched your video blog, Tim, and saw the simple round dials that you put up there as an example. Giorgetto Guigiaro is considering new ideas about how to display data to us. For example here is the cockpit to his Vadho concept...
