FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 19, 2012
Elkhart Lake, WI: 22 year old Ryan Ellis announced today that he will be competing this Saturday in his first-ever NASCAR Nationwide Series event here on Road America's historic 4.0 mile road racing course. Ellis will be driving for NASCAR veteran Jimmy Means in the #52 Means Racing Chevy. The announcement comes after weeks of speculation within the NASCAR Nationwide ranks over where and when the talented young Grand AM driver might make his NASCAR Nationwide debut.
Ellis will be doing double duty this week at Road America, as he is also driving for I-Moto Racing in the Grand-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, (CTSCC) series race on Friday. Ellis is campaigning for the remainder of 2012 as the closing driver for the team's #30 MazdaSPEED 3 race car in the Street Tuner, (ST) class.
Ellis' return to NASCAR takes him full-circle - as a teenager he competed on local Virginia short tracks in NASCAR's Weekly Racing Series. Now as an established Grand AM road racing professional, Ellis is looking to cross back into NASCAR, at least for select road course venues. "Ideally, we'd like to also do the Nationwide series events at Watkins Glen and Montreal for this year. But it all starts with this weekend with the fantastic opportunity that Mr. Means has given me to try this series out."
In addition to his Grand-AM duties, Ryan is the full-time driver of Race Car Replicas/Team Superlite Cars', (SLC) factory race team. Ellis won the NASA Super Unlimited National Championship for the team in 2011, and is competing in the NASA Nationals and select endurance events for the Team throughout 2012.
Currently a senior at George Mason University, Ryan is also a professional racing instructor and a frequent host on CBS/WJFK's weekly “In the Pits” radio talk show.
