    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Just so I can attach one more picture. Most recent has been getting the clutch installed and then getting the oiling systems, coolers and everything else back in place. Biggest pain was a few days of in and out with the dogbone as I had to grind some on the transaxle ridges, some on the...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

My solution to getting spray nozzles in the transmission connectors. The holes in the aluminum connectors were just slightly smaller than 5/16 inch. So drill out to 5/16. Tap them to 3/8 by 16 thread size. Turn in a nylon bolt (3/4 inch long hex head) about 1/2 deep which is where my threads...

    Axle bolt Sizes?

I don't think so, a metric nut goes on them correctly and they measure right on a micrometer.

    Axle bolt Sizes?

Update. G50 bolts are the 1.00 pitch (standard). Easily threaded in. The bolts on the RCR side are apparently not any of the pitches, none of the bolts will thread in. Sent a question in to RCR, will have to wait and see if I get a response. Not sure if picture will be clear enough once...

    Axle bolt Sizes?

OK, a search didn't yield anything concrete, so will ask a question. Did find some info from Bill Mussara (I think that was right) on an old thread from Chuck and Ryan that indicated his bolts were the same inboard and outboard. I have G50 transmission, went to install the half-shafts last...

    Stiff Throttle

All, thanks for all the help. I am done. I got about 5 pound out by straightening the cable pull at the throttle end by making a new bracket (that is the picture). A couple of pound gained by using some spacers that gave me a little angle at the pedal end and helped straighten that out a bit...

    Stiff Throttle

Cliff and others, Thanks for the advice. I am trying first to relocate to get a better angle on the bell crank, but would be interested in looking into a throttle cable wheel of some sorts. Any advice on where to source these, tried Pegasus, Summit and can't seem to find anything with throttle...

    Stiff Throttle

I guess the throttle is on the engine, so this is the right place for this post I hope. The first picture is taken from the top of the engine and shows the two golden colored arms, one connected to the webers and the other connected to the throttle cable (9 foot Lokar). If I remove the...

    G50 Oil Capacity

OK, maybe my searches are not good, but I can't seem to find anything. I can find the capacity from the book and such (3.6 liters if I recall), but can't seem to find any discussion on if that changes when you run inverted like in a GT. I realize that the capacity will change based on volume...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Markus, Thanks for the note, I was concerned with the same thing, but that was the only way to get the cables routed so that the cleared everything else (ac pump and headers). It seems to work, I have everything attached to the shifter and it shifts pretty easily and fluidly, so fingers...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

This has been a week long endeavor. Had some interference between ac lines off the compressor and the radiator hose off the water pump housing. So had to redesign and fabricate new brackets. Needed to move the ac 7/8 rearward to give full range of adjust and line up front ac pulley with...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Final transmission cooler. I am declaring victory on the final layout and hose routing for the transmission pump, cooler, filter and injection lines. Got the last connectors and cut and attached the last hoses. First pic is final with “bare” braided hoses. Second one shows routing from bottom...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

I think I have the shifter and shifter cables done and sorted out. The shifter in the cabin has a throw that is from 1 inch to 7.5 inches from the dash without any of the cables connected. After much setting of the various adjustments on the cables, I have it to where first (and any gear with...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Call this Transmission Oiling System Redesign. After I had everything on the left side of the car, which I think was a more aesthetically pleasing arrangement with Transmission Oil on right side and engine oil on the left side, I reconsidered. I was not happy with the transmission taps being...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

A new use for "old" things. So I ran my transmission pump today with only a couple of hoses attached. I started with clean new transmission oil and when I was done, noticed a few black particles and some shiny ones in the oil and thought "geez, that could only have come from my hoses". I had...

    Transmission Oil Pump

I thought I would see how big a mess I could make today. Actually, didn't make much of a mess which was good. See the attached picture which is a snapshot of my transaxle oiling system (most of it anyway), while it is running. The basics are 8N line from bottom of tranny to filter, 8N to to...

    Mitch Krause's RCR GT40 Build

Oh, one thing I wanted to mention but forgot to include was the distribution manifold that I am using. I looked at many different things, most any ready made manifold had barb fittings, so short of making something like Rick did, I was at a loss. Then one day I found a company called...

    50/52 Transaxle Cooler

Yeah, I can't quite tell on your picture, but it looks like you might have a straight NPT to AN fitting coming out of the transmission. My issue is that I did not have enough clearance to the mufflers to go with a straight fitting. I had to use a 90 degree fitting, which would make it...
