Insuring a Replica during build - USA

Randy, Hagerty Insurance Agency (800-922-4050) insured mine during the build - I could later add additional coverage. Good luck on your build! John :stunned:

    GT40 for sale

Paul, I started to buy a LS Kit but opted not to because of the one piece body (no access to engine) and the fact that they didn't offer more engine choices ( I didn't want a puny four banger powering my GT40). How did you like the kit and how does it handle? John

I like the classic look - the new one is too hard to read! Thanks thought for gussing up the site - the options let the user choose! John :pepper:

    Roll Cage

Murray, I have a KVA and lament the fact that I don't have a roll cage. Riding low with all those big vehicles around me causes great concern for my safety. Doubly so when I consider that my gas tanks are on the door perimeter and vunerable to a side collision. I like this roll cage...

Half shafts with U-Joints vs. CV Joints

Jac, I'll try your suggestion - I generally don't notice the vibration when accelerating thru that rpm range in 1st gear! John :pepper:

Half shafts with U-Joints vs. CV Joints

Randy, My KVA has CV joints on the transaxle side of the drive shafts and U-joints on the suspension side. It uses Corvette rear suspension . I've been trying for a number of months to eliminate a drive train vibration that occurs when I'm accelerating in 2nd gear from about 2K to 4K RPM...

    Aircon Hose Route??

Chris, I had a hell of a time solving this problem. My tunnel was crowded and I couldn't put anything else in there. After months of agonizing, I finally came up with an inelegant but workable solution. I removed the heater hoses that ran along the right tank and replaced them with...

BC, Could you give me some more details and pictures if possible. Will the handbrake calipers mount on Corvette rotors? John :pepper:

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

I CORRECTED ONE PARAGRAPH: While I am not a auto engineer, I am a scientist and had one thought on Dave's assessment, as I have ujoints on the end of each drive axle, would not the drive assembly behave as a straight axle and the ujoint motion on each end cancel the effects of the U-joint/CV...

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Randy, It's funny that you would suggest this - after digesting Dave's thoughts on the harmonics introduced by the CV Joint/Ujoint combination - I thought to myself that if Dave is right, then adjusting the shock height or tension should cause the the vibration to dampen or occur at a...

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Dave, My transaxle centerline is lower than the wheel centerline. Also the CV joints are on the transaxle side (930 Porsche) and the u-joints are on the Corvette hub side. I doubt whether much squatting is going on under acceleration as the shudder normally occurs when I'm driving about...

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Dave, I was interested in your comments on the combination of Ujoints and CV joints on the same half shaft. I get a shudder when I accelerate from about 2K to 4K - it only happens is 2nd gear and higher gears - it does not happen in 1st gear. If the Ujoint/CV Joint is a bad design, what kind of...

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Peter, You were right about the cheap Taiwanese ujoints. After I read your suggestion I went right out to my GM dealer to buy a "genuine GM Ujoint" - there's about a 3mm difference in the cap to cap length. I figured that it was a ujoint problem because I had the play on both the yoke and...

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Randy, Thanks for the picture of the yoke - the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words sure holds true. The welding of a spacer to make up the gap is an option, but I'd rather find a ujoint that is a few mm wider. Also, on the shaft side of the ujoint there is a little play - so...

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Randy,Ian, and Wayne I have CV joints on the transaxle side of the half shafts - I assume this allows enough in and out play. My problem is up and down play (vertical) on the ujoint. The distance from the end of the ujoint end caps seems a hair too small - perhaps a couple of mm. This allows...

    Help Badly Needed

Ken, I don't want to ask the obvious - but are you sure you have hydralic lifters. Solid lifters would probably do that when they get hot and expand as there is no gap between the push rods and the tappets when you adjust them that tight! John :pepper:

    Ujoint play on Corvette suspension

Bruce, I get no vibration when the car is sitting still through that rpm range - indeed, I don't think I get it in 1st gear (I'll recheck). I only seem to get it when accelerating in 2nd or higher gears (I have a four speed Porsche 930 transaxle) John :pepper:
