How Do You Keep Your Garage Clean?

...and a silver one too. Yes, it’s a sickness. But as they are my daily drivers, having four of them helps ensure at least one will get me to work in the morning! My wife and I have 12 cars between us. The red Pantera is hers, along with a 2000 Mustang track car. It’s a bit...

How Do You Keep Your Garage Clean?

I’m a big fan of wall to wall carpet in the garage. Makes it comfortable to lie on when working under a car, warm in the winter, reflects light if you use light colored carpet, dropped nuts and bolts don’t ricochet into oblivion either. And if you raid your neighbors when they are installing new...

24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend!

All, Don’t forget the race is this weekend. In the USA we will get flag-to-flag coverage (for the first time ever I think?) on the Velocity network. Race begins at 9 a.m. eastern time.

    steering wheel

One objection I have to these wheels is that they use a modern, fat grip. The original wheels used a much thinner, more delicate grip. I wonder if it’s possible to get a true replica of an original wheel somewhere?

Will There Be a Paddock on the New GT40s.com?

FWIW I like the paddock just as it is. For that matter, I like GT40s.com just as it is too. Why does there have to be a ‘new’ one?

    gearing

And what kind of gearbox do you have? Knuckle-dragger front engined car guys discuss rear end gearing as an absolute because the premise is that their transmissions are running a 1:1 ratio in top gear. However transaxles rarely have a 1:1 top gear, so comparisons become next to meaningless...

    Calling Old Members

Still a wannabe but reading every day, especially the SPF forum and the paddock of course!

    clutch

Wow. That seems ridiculous to me. FWIW I once helped change a clutch and flywheel on a Pantera in the parking lot of a hotel. Using ropes, discovered scrap wood and simple hand tools we got the whole job done in under four hours and that includes considerable beer-drinking time. I’ve done the...

    door latches

John, If you have 1/4 inch of play it sounds like you are only engaging the secondary catch, not the primary one? Could it be that you need to adjust in the opposite direction to enable the main one to engage? Counterintuitive, I know. Just a wild guess?

    '40 Bra

Bras on cars were a short-lived fad that thankfully died out. Besides looking completely stupid, they did exactly the opposite of their intended benefit—they destroyed the paint underneath. They also cost money. So if you were successful in your stated endeavor, you would wind up spending...

    2018 Formula One

I wish there was an on-demand option for viewing the races after the fact. It’s great they are broadcast live but I travel frequently and often can’t see them when they are broadcast....

    Electric water pump

Fwiw a friend had a Meziere electric pump on his Pantera. It is MUCH shorter than a stock pump and allowed him to completely eliminate the large firewall hump that normally protrudes into the cabin. He also said that it worked extremely well.

    best heat shield material

Fwiw I have used stick-on heat- and noise-shielding material intended for light aircraft that I got from Aircraft Spruce....

    48 Ida linkage

Fwiw, I had a friend with Webers on his 351C on a Pantera and it drove him nuts. He could never get it to idle consistently. He had a hell of a time syncing them too. Turns out that his intake and linkage were all aluminum. As the engine heated up the aluminum would expand, things would grow...

What chassis number is this car?

Right. That one car is the only Holman Moody built continuation car that I know of. I’m not talking about Superformance or any other replicas, or SPF cars where HM provided components such as engines or gearboxes. I am talking about 100% Holman-Moody cars. If there are any others besides...

What chassis number is this car?

As far as I know, HM only built a single continuation MKII which has perpetually been for sale for 10+ years. It may have traded hands a few times but it has never found a true owner as far as I know. I just saw an ad for it for sale in England now. Please correct me if I’m wrong?

    Ignition Switch?

A friend hid a starter interlock in plain sight. He routed the ‘start’ wire through an unmarked toggle switch, one of many on the dash. In practice, the switch needs to be flipped on in order for current to flow from the ignition switch to the solenoid and engage the starter. Once the car is...

Why this forum is dissapperaring up its own anus?

Yup. I was glad when all politics were moved to a single thread that I now religiously ignore. I haven’t read a single political post in many, many months now, and don’t miss them one bit. But I certainly appreciate that that thread exists to enable people to discuss, and potentially learn...

Is gt40's important to you - let us know your thoughts

That’s an interesting perspective. I was viewing the opposite side of the coin—if I had a SPF-related issue I would have to plow through tons of unrelated marque threads to find the info I needed—needle in a haystack-style. Hmm...

Is gt40's important to you - let us know your thoughts

Thanks Randy! I feel stupid now—and deservedly so! What would it take to bring the SPF forum back to life? Even though I don’t own one and it will likely be many years before I do (if ever), I believe the SPF forum is crucial. In fact it’s practically the only reason I participate here...
