Red Line oil for G50 gearbox?

Scott, I am currently using Redline MT90. As you wouldn't recommend using the Redline oil, which oil do you believe is the most suitable for the 01e? Andy

Audi 012 to Porsche 930 CV Adapter Drawing and question.

Doug, Do the 930 CV's have those protrusions between the bolt holes. If so, wouldn't your adapters need scalloped cutouts to clear them? Here's an adapter for an 01E (with the larger tripoid flanges) to Porsche Carrera CV's that I made up. I believe my CV's are the same size as 930's. Andy

    01E fluid type

I filled my 01e with MT-90 (which is a GL4 lubricant) according to previous recommendations. I noticed on their WEB site (Perhaps this is a recent update?) that "MTL & MT-90 are not for use in differentials with hypoid gears". This suggests that a GL-5 lubricant be used in the 01e. Comments...

    Tilton Carbon Clutch

I wouldn't think it's essential to use expensive carbon/carbon just to hold that kind of power/torque. If cost is a concern, I'd look to QuarterMaster for perhaps better value for the money. They can spline disc hubs the 01E's 15/16"-23 input shaft as they did for me. Now's a good time to...

    01E Slave Cylinder Piston Diameter?

I'm looking to find the piston diameter of the 01E clutch slave cylinder. My symptom is a clutch pedal too close to the end of travel before clutch disengagement. I'm using a 3/4" bore Wilwood clutch master which should be adequate taking into account the appropriate ratios, etc. The 01E...

930 shift pattern and cable shift question

Here's a shifter by PBS Eng'g. that I haven't seen mentioned yet. It's operation is about as simple as it gets and it's pretty compact. Click on "Upgraded Shifter" at the bottom of the page to see a three view assmbly drawing for a clear illustration of its operation. SAND RAIL SHIFTER Andy

    01E Oil Cooler

Scott/Bob, Would you please explain what the "rear seal" is on an 01E? Thanks, Andy

    01X shif pattern

When facing the gear selector shaft of the gearbox, reverse is full in then rotated CCW or anti-clockwise. Reverse, 1, 3, and 5 (as you move out from reverse in succession) will be CCW from the neutral gate, and 2, 4, and 6 will be CW (clockwise) from the neutral gate. With the neutral gate at...

What Audi transaxle for RS4 motor

Chris, It shouldn't be difficult to find a front drive 01E gearbox in the UK (that's where I got mine); it will bolt right up. Andy

    Brand New Audi 01E Transaxle

Scott, How do you determine if it's "one of those" without disassembly, or is there another way to identify it (like S/N)? Thanks, Andy

Chris, Nicely done. What is the diameter of the clutch disc? Andy

Yeah, thanks Doug! That's the same spline as my Audi 01E. Andy

    Boxster 2.5 gearbox

Adam, Do you happen to know the diameter/spline count of the 6 speed Boxster input shaft? Thanks, Andy

    Boxster 2.5 gearbox

Adam, The only real difference in the 6 speed Boxster, is that weird one o'clock starter position. If your adapter plate uses the four o'clock Boxster 5 speed (012) starter position and pocket, then they would not interchange, AFAIK. It mostly depends on how the adapter plate is configured...

930 shift pattern and cable shift question

Bill, That is a very nice write-up. It looks to me like it covers all the aspects necessary to consider when configuring a cable shifter both in the cabin and the transaxle. You stress some very good points I would like to affirm one of your bullet points: "For the neutral selector to...

    Boxster 2.5 gearbox

I believe that in Europe, the 012 (Boxster) transaxles are (or were) used behind the Audi A8 V8 motor. That of course is not an endorsement of it's strength, but apparently it is adequate for the task. It would be nice to get some feedback from someone that uses one for their V8 application and...

    Cheap Transaxle

Dylan, You can also consider a Porsche 901 (from a 914). Most that use them either remove or avoid using 1st gear; it's the weak point. Otherwise, it's good to 300/300 HP/TQ and there are many 914 V8 conversion running around successfully with this transaxle. To optimize the ratios for V8...

    bellhousing alignment

Brian, Thank you for the links. I was aware of this technique on a configuration cited in these articles. However, how do you perform this task on a transaxle with an integral bellhousing? Thanks again, Andy
