    930 starter/ring gear?

Russ, I sense that you're close to a solution. There are a few manufacurers of rear start bellhousings, starters, and starter rings here in the US. One such that I will direct you to is: Quarter Master Racing Clutches In the catalog, select Rear Mount Starter Bellhousing to illustrate what...

    930 starter/ring gear?

Regardless of which flywheel ring gear one chooses, the tooth pitch must be compatible with the starter pinion gear. I tried to get a grip on the various ring gear pitch information to no avail. Does anyone have such information? Unfortunately Porsche has a habit of making components to their...

    Low cost shifter ??

After cruising throught he salvage yards, it seems that just about any FWD Toyota from the late '70's though the late '80's has a candidate shifter assembly. Some have a die cast ball retaining housing, and some have a stamped steel housing; that is the only fundamaental difference I see outside...

    Chassis Torsional Stiffness

Ditto Jim and Russ. Comparing chassis stiffness' ultimate values leaves out a crucial standard unit of measure between chassis types/weight/application, and so on. So I believe Ron to be correct in his assesement of a lack of standard. The values, unless you are comparing like models, are of...

    VSS Signal on 01E

I was able to gather some more information, though there might be some doubt cast upon it. Since it is a three wire sensor, I was told it is a Hall Effect sensor producing a sine wave at 5 to 8 volts peak to peak. Pins are +12V, ground, and signal. Driven by the differential output shaft sensor...

    VSS Signal on 01E

Perhaps there's a Porsche or VW tech on the board? The 5 speed Boxster used a model 012 gearbox which I suspect has the same VSS as well. Here's a discussion regarding a GM VSS. Need to find something similar for the Audi/VW. http://www.jagsthatrun.com/V8-chapters/V8-tpi-Speed-Sensors.pdf...

    VSS Signal on 01E

I would like to find information for the output signal for the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the 01E transaxle. Voltage, waveform, and PPM (pulses per mile/kilometer/revolution). I suspect it's the same for all late model VW/Audi 01E and 012 transaxles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Andy

    O1e 300 045 Q Ekn

The code EKN gearbox does indeed have an internal oil pump for an external oil cooler. One would assume the A8 gearbox would be the best selection for a V8 GT40 etc. application, however it has a pretty short 1st gear ratio (3.875:1). With the 3.75:1 differential, that yeilds a net ratio of...

Audi 5000 Trans Case Saver Plate

Looks like this guy has a number of kit car components as well (mostly Lambo stuff). eBay Motors: Audi 5000 Trans Case saver plate kit (item 120090676676 end time Mar-02-07 13:38:47 PST) Andy

    Audi V8 and 01E

My information shows a 6 speed 01E Quattro was available with the 4.2ltr. V8. At first glance, I do not see a listing for a front drive only 01E gearbox on the 4.2ltr. A8, however the bellhousing's are the same. There ought to be a number of Audi performace shops on your side of the pond that...

    Audi V8 and 01E

If you are in the US, you're not likely to find any 01E front drive transaxles (with attached motor). They only imported Audi's withthe model 012 5 speed transaxles. Andy

    Boxster gearbox anyone???

I'm not versed in Porsche facts, but the early 5 speed Boxster was not hugely powerful. The later ones had somewhat more power and they went to a 6 speed transaxle. The 5 speed Boxster ratio's are the same as some Audi's, depending on the code. From memory (that's a disclaimer!!), code DVS...

    Boxster gearbox anyone???

The early Boxster 5 speed is the same basic 5 speed front drive gearbox as used in the Audi A4 thru A8. It's the model 012. Andy1

    New shifter?

    013 verses 016

Neil, The 013 was, as far as I know, was used in the smaller Audi's. From that, one might suspect they're not capable of handling the torque as the well known and commonly used 016. You may be hard pressed to find someone who's tried the 013 behind V8 power. I Wish I could be of more help...

    What's this trans ?

This isn't likely to help those folks across the pond, but here's a link to a well established Porsche dismantler in SoCal. I have done business with them in the past. I prefer to work directly with the owner, who in my experience is a stand up guy. The site never quite seems to be to date on...

    What's this trans ?

Brett, It is the early 5 speed Boxster that is nearly identical to the 5 speed Audi model 012. The 6 speed Boxster in your link is not the same as the Audi 6 speed (01E). That Getrag link is nice as it lists torque ratings of each model; too bad they don't go back to earlier models on thier...
