John, not sure where you are located but Holden Commodore rear bearings are a better option as they are wider and handle the V8 options with ease, the hubs are also great for scratch building uprights. Axels were also nice and strong.

Well we are onto what should be our second to last certification check and the usual small bits to appease. Just done an official sound check and we are at 107db and I need around 98 / 99dba. The combined muffler has a division and balance inside and its not practical to amend.(as it will be...

Now this is what a real paint job looks like, the boys at Spraywell have done a magnificent job considering the amount of prep that was required after the previous `****` up. Looking forward to assembly and then the body manufacture. Cheers

One step forward, 3 steps back. After much discussion with the paint expert / salesman, I bought some of a new Aussie brand of super hard chassis paint. Big mistake, as even though it flowed on and looked really glossy when brushed on, the devil was in the detail later because any area that you...

Well we managed to get Carol back across to Aussie to visit the grand kids, a bit tiring but done. So now some time back in the shed. Had two very successful days where I adapted the Mazda drive shaft to the Toyota shaft, it would have been easy if they were both the same dia. as a special...

Solved that one easy old school, just laid the two axels side by side and move one until the total overall length was correct and marked the cut! axel part A then attaches to axel part B...hey presto... both axel`s are the correct length. More progress now with the front end set up, all the...

Here is a question for all and sundry, it`s right up JacMac`s resume . I have moved my differential across to allow a lowered drive position `beside` the drive shaft in old school Formula Junior tradition. The difference in axel lengths is 260mm. I need to cut the axels so that when the two sets...

    Spaceframe Chassis - variations

Mark, all those dimensions are variable anyway. I have used the second plan for a road going M8B constructed from 40mm sq 2mm tube and have found it to be exceptionally strong. One main change I did was to fabricate the centre tunnel section from 1.6mm sheet with a tack welded bottom plate. All...

Another good days effort with the motor back in the frame,(will freshen up later) brake and clutch pedals fitted and the basic plan on the front rocker suspension sussed out. Waiting for some square section steel to arrive to get that underway. Better slow down or else it will be finished to...

Well a good couple of days full effort and the chassis is on the rotisserie to catch up all the hard to get welds. I have also made the inlet / exhaust manifold whilst the engine was in the chassis before it gets freshened / cleaned. Next task is to set up the steering shaft down to the rack and...

Problem solved...after a good night`s sleep i went down to the workshop and checked the bolt that locks the gear shift arm onto the selector shaft....and yes the bolt head just foul``s the gear box housing preventing full reverse engagement. Don`t have to pay a visit to the Audi dealer! Cheers

Went to go for a drive today and could not fully select reverse gear. I have tried and checked all my connections / gear lever movement and anything else that externally could effect it. The trans is an Audi 012 brand new and it drives fine forward, its just the reverse gear engages partially...

Two years and a few hours work just to change a number change...not! Visually though that`s all it looks like from the outside, closer inspection reveals that it`s a totally different car. Got it all done and into the Speedshow, now it`s time to get those registration plates and do some...

Well the big day finally arrived...a day later and just before it rained. Went to drive it out yesterday, all hyped up and it would not go into gear! I had previously ran it up on blocks with no drama so was a little confused. Long story short, after much thought, I removed the clutch rod in the...
