Re: What oil in an 016 gear box - syncro corrosion
Googling this issue I found a post by twmattox on CJOffroad.com - For CJ Owners by CJ Owners! "I emailed Valvoline regarding this ... They indicated that the issue is with the type of sulfate used in the lube. Apparently activated sulfate...
Iain,
Thanks for the opportunity to visit your pit garage on Saturday and see your car in the flesh - very impressive.
Perhaps you can post in advance when you are racing in future.
The manual for the gearbox says:
Oil capacity: 2.75 litres
Oil: Hypoid gear oil GL4 (MIL-L 2105) SAE 80 or SAE 80W-90
Of course the manual is old and according to a couple of mechanics that have looked into this, the required oil needs to be GL5 75W-90 synthetic.
Whether the box has a...
I have an Audi 016 AAZ gearbox and wanted to do something about not having a sixth gear. Sitting on 110 km/h it was doing around 3000 rpm.
The other problem with the AAZ is that first gear is almost useless - it is too low and you need to change to second gear almost immediately; some drivers...
Albins' website (Albins offroad gear - products: Accessories) shows what they have on offer including the 3.22. I have just gone through the process of getting a 2.92 ratio cut - it arrived a few days ago. I should have it installed in a couple of weeks.

Part of the attraction of Adelaide is that it is a compact planned city. Even though its population is over 1 million it is easy to drive into the city centre and get a car park (without paying an arm and a leg for it).
Some things that come to mind:
Stroll along North Terrace in the city...
Pete,
You should acknowledge that your post of 28 Nov is actually an article written by Arthur Sinodinos (previously John Howard's chief of staff) for the Sydney Morning Herald (and associated papers).
The 1969 clips are from "La Ronde Infernale - Le Mans 1969" which is available on DVD.
The 1968 and 1970 races are covered in "The Gulf/Wyer GT40s & 917s in action" - also available on DVD.
As I posted in a similar thread:
It is a big undertaking and I was very cautious about whether I would be able to do it given that I had no automotive experience. I write computer software and my only vaguely relevant skill was that I could do a bit of woodwork and had tools relating to that...
Loved the sights and sounds of the video. I noticed that you have your rear vision mirror some way done the windscreen. Mine is at the top of the windscreen and it compromises my rear view because my rear line of sight slants downwards. How does your mirror placement affect your forward vision?
I had a professional glass person fit my glass windows. For that one he used a special tool (a small bit of metal) that he sort dragged around the edge - I don't remember exactly. It was a tight fit. Make sure you have enough room for it - I had to trim my aluminium slightly when his first...
Stuart,
You say: "given I don't have the ability to build a GT40 ... ". Perhaps you sell yourself short.
