    Rover V8 History

I think Rons right, and a crank that will take the revs at 5 litre displacement is not cheap. I think the 450 hp Wilcats are pretty much full race with everything that that entails. Anything over 300 hp in a Rover engine gets into big dollars. That was one of the major reasons I ditched my 5...

    930 trans solid rear mount

Works fine Martin. It connects to a 'rifle bolt' shifter in the cockpit which is nice and precise and quick for the track. But for a road car I think a conventional pivoting lever would give more feel and be easier on the syncros. Under racing conditions the change is almost instantaneous...

    930 trans solid rear mount

    Yeah. That's what I've done. See posts # 281 & 282 in my build log. http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-build-logs/16138-kiwi-scratchbuilt.html

    Dg-930 - Porsche 930 Transaxle Improvements

Well done Dave. As you know I am intending to go the dog box way with mine once I've got another season under my belt. It's nice to be aware of the problems involved with this conversion. I'll make sure I cure this one before I bolt it in the car. Forewarned is forearmed, thanks for saving...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Thanks for the input Trevor. The foundry asked if I was going to do a split pattern. They seemed to think it would be better. With regard to the core prints, I made them 22mm. I have an old F5000 McRae upright, which is not too dissimilar, cast by the same foundry and that uses 19mm core...

    2011 VIR 13 Hour - RCR T70 Replica

9 laps. Sorry to see that Ron. After all the preparation and effort you have put in. It will be interesting to see just what caused the failure, and why. I guess there is always next year, and you should have a seasons racing under your belt by then to get any issues sorted. Even so, 13 hours...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

That's exactly what I'm doing Trevor and that's the main reason for doing it this way. Also I can make up the split pattern from the molds as well. It's good to have guys on board, on this thread and by PM, offering advice on easier/better ways of killing the cat. Thanks to all for your...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Pic 1. The upright pattern has been finally coated with Duratech and finish sanded and had the eight coats of release wax applied, ready for taking off a fibreglass mold. This will be done in two pieces split down the casting parting line. Pic2. So I have had to make a fence to provide a...

    Aussie RCR T70 capers

Just as well the bale was there. It must have absorbed a fair bit of shock which I would imagine would otherwise have been administered much more severely to the car via the lamp post.....? Anyway, that's racing. If you're not trying, you might as well not be out there. Good on you for getting...

    Possible option?

Further to my last post, I rang Ross Nicol to catch up with him again and during the conversation he mentioned Albins are now doing a GT40 transaxle. Another new kid on the block, but I think I would have confidence in their product. I wonder what their pricing is ? Anybody know any more details?

    ZFQ Transaxle failure

That's a good point and I have exchanged messages with him in the past, but this doesn't benefit any other forum members who may also have an interest in the technical discussion. That's why I thought it was better to try and ameliorate the behaviour of those that tend to give him a hard time...

    Possible option?

Albins do build 'normal' transaxles but most of the ones I have seen are much to long for a GT40

    ZF vs ZFQ differences?

Alan, You changed your post after I posted my reply. Which appears to me to be a little disingenuous The entirety of your original post is shown in my first reply. I am no fan of the ZF, but unless you know the reasons for failure, age and state of the trans etc, as well as all the other...

    ZFQ Transaxle failure

That's true, but if everyone was a little less precious about the way he presents himself, we may have been able to get some further insight into the intricacies of gearbox design...... Maybe..... Certainly worth cutting him a little slack in the hope that we might learn something. This forum is...

    ZF vs ZFQ differences?

I should have thought Wanni's point was obvious, maybe it got lost in the translation, The ZF is well proven, the new kids on the block are not. Funny, I was just thinking the other day how much really good tech Wanni had left for us on this forum. Much, much better than the drivel that seems...

    Ross Nicol, where are you?

I see he hasn't been on here since June last year. I know he was pretty involved with a Pantera he had imported from the States around that time. I've been meaning to phone him for a while now, this could be just the catalyst I need to get my arse into gear. Will try and get hold of him tomorrow.
