Warning For British Motorists En France

You just have to keep to the speed limits and you will have no problem. The limit on French Autoroutes is 81 mph, which seems a bit slow in my Porsche (and GT40), but isn't too bad for covering the miles. Just take care.

One for the pilots in the group

If the engines are Hirth as indicated in the link, a friend had a Hirth flat 4 in an Avid Flyer. He had 100 hp and had plenty of practice at forced landings! I hope that all is well with this project when it flies. I have flown in a real B17 at Oshkosh (Aluminium Overcast - EAA members will know...

Think I would have waited in a nearby bar until the sea had calmed down and taken another ferry! Chris

Wings and Wheels 2013 - DUNSFOLD (Surrey)

Hi John I also applied on-line some time ago and even sent a photo of my car as requested. Haven't heard anything yet but we never do until the last moment so hope I am on the list. I assume (but maybe wrong) that you have only looked at the paper applications and not the on-line ones. All...

Spa - looking for a trailer friendly Hotel

We have stayed at the Hostellerie Le Roannay and yes their car park can accommodate trailers. It is quite expensive but the accomodation and food are very good. There are other eating places in Francorchamps within a short walk should you want to eat more cheaply. When we were doing a 2 day...

Surrey & Sussex Christmas Meal 12th Dec

Didn't know it was on until I read your post about it above on Friday Andrew. Understand that some Surrey members got emails earlier in the week - but not me. Sent my menu choice to Ian early on Saturday. Would be a pity if we can't go as it is the one Club meeting where we wouldn't have a long...

    Goodwood Revival 2012

I think they all have to be originals to compete at the Revival. The big question is how original is a GT40 that has had a complete restoration in recent years? They should all have original chassis numbers, however, but I am afraid I don't know what they are - perhaps Ronnie Spain can help...

Hi Ronnie I would be most grateful if you could add me to the list of recipients of a signed copy of your new book. Long may you continue to be the foremost guru on all things GT40. Chris Simpson

    This years insurance :o

My insurance renewal with Hagerty has gone up to over £800 for the coming year with just me driving (with an unblemished record) for up to 1500 miles. Many thanks to those who have contributed with suggestions for insurance companies offering more reasonable quotes. I think part of the...

RF's at David Calleja Car Show in Bacchus Marsh

Here in the UK it is perfectly legal to have racing numbers on your car on the public highway. However, it is considered not the done thing and a bit ungentlemanly to do so (I think this goes back to pre WW2 when any hint of racing on the roads was definitely illegal and nobody wanted to give...

    Plugging or Capping Water Inlets/Outlets

As Will Campbell says, the easyist way is to connect the 2 tubes. I have done this on my '40 after one of the previously installed plugs (not installed by me) blew out and dumped a lot of the coolant. No problems since. It only needs a short "U" hose. Hope this helps. Chris

le mans classic laptime last call!

Hi Dick I sent my money via Paypal to Tim's specified Club email address some time before Christmas. Haven't heard anything yet. Am I on the list of confirmed cars? With many thanks for organising it all - I will try to encourage others to sign up. Chris

    r.i.p. xtr

It looks like a track day as the cars haven't got race numbers. Here in the UK I think the session would have been stopped. As others have said, it makes a good case for an on board extinguisher system. At track days here, there are not as many marshals as there would be at a race meeting...

    Airplane build

Hi Jim They disappeared because the company went bankrupt after they were sued by a builder in the US who modified his Quickie 1 (the single seat version) and then crashed it. This happened shortly after I had taken delivery of my kit, which was basically raw materials, and made the build...
