    Brighton Speed Trials 2010

Lucky it is road registered or you might have needed a roll cage! We have got an entry with the '40 if it is ready by then and we hope to be faster than your car. Of course, if it is wet you might have an advantage over the 1000 bhp Skylanes, etc. Hope to see you there. Chris

    A big Day August 6th

Congratulations Pete. May you have a long and happy retirement. Cars, planes, boats and whatever else takes your fancy - you can do it all now in a beautiful part of a beautiful country. If all goes well, before long you will wonder how you ever managed to have time to go to work. Chris

The F-35B Joint Strike Fighter STOVL

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the shaft that connects the engine to the forward horizontal fan that supports the front of the aircraft in a STOVL situation has to take 28,000 horse power! Also the test pilot for the initial STOVL test phase was British, as is the software (produced...

The F-35B Joint Strike Fighter STOVL

Surely the main point of the F35 is that it doesn't need a long runway, or any runway at all. All other modern supersonic aircraft require several thousand feet of concrete runway to take off and land. In a modern war situation the 'enemy' would try to put such airfields out of action in the...

    LMC track time

I would like to endorse all the expressions of appreciation for Ian's efforts toward enabling the event to take place. We had a very enjoyable (albeit hot) time going round an iconic track in an iconic car. We were limited to 5000 rpm due to continuing problems with the EFI (didn't want to risk...

    F1 2010

That is very sad. I have stayed there a number of times as it is very convenient for Silverstone. They are also very relaxed about trailers being parked in their car park and occupying several car spaces. Hope it is rebuilt. Chris

    Le Mans Classic 2010

Sounds like they have given our 1/2 hour slot to somebody with more clout than our £20,000 we have paid. A sentence including the words "piss-up" and "brewery" spring to mind. There is not much point in going round the track in the dark if you don't know it and can only see 100 metres ahead...

    The PC madness thread!

All this is so apposite - oops I have just revealed myself to the thought police. Chris

    F1 warm-up

The bloke standing on the right next to the car won't be hearing much at all in the future if he doesn't take more care in protecting his hearing. In fact nobody in the clip appeared to be wearing ear defenders, but at least some stuck their fingers in their ears. Chris

    Brisbane - Paradise?

Well, that is all very disappointing Pete. Just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read in the papers - even one owned by an Aussie...Mr Murdoch. Chris

    Brisbane - Paradise?

This is for Pete to confirm. In today's UK Sunday Times it mentions that in Brisbane, Australia, there are seven single women to every one single man. It is not fair that they have that and year round warm weather too. If I was younger (and unmarried) I might consider emigrating! Chris

    Ease of Use?

I understand that a genuine T70 coupe has a smaller cockpit than a GT40 - it would be narrower because the upper body is narrower than the body of a GT40 in that area. Lola did think of producing a road going version of the T70 coupe and the factory prepared a version for Eric Broadly to try...

    RCR vs. SPF vs. CAV

Stainless steel won't corrode and aluminium will, although the 6061-T6 that I believe RCR uses is resistant to corrosion. Aluminium is of course lighter but most Gt40s seem to work out at roughly the same overall weight, with the aluminium chassied cars showing no particular advantage in this...

A very powerful piece of writing by Bryan Forbes

The rules on expenses for members of the House of Lords have been drafted by a committee of peers with doubtful claims already and was chaired by someone who has also made suspect claims. The whole business appears to have been conducted in order to let those accused of fiddling their expenses...

    Smallest twin in the world

I know someone who had a Cri Cri but has now sold it. It appeared to be a practical aircraft for going up and having fun doing aerobatics. You wouldn't want to do any distance in it, however. It is perfectly legal in the UK and doesn't need a ballistic parachute. The Carbon Sting is having...

Fine words from the judge. Wish ours were more like that. Chris

    Frozen Block - Any tips?

Also the anti freeze mixture is a corrosion inhibitor which is essential IMO if you have aluminium parts, eg heads, in contact with the coolant. Good luck with it all Ron - what a bummer to come back to that after a nice holiday. Chris

A very powerful piece of writing by Bryan Forbes

Will be posting mine tomorrow. Sorry only just seen it. They can't get Tony Blair for fiddling his expenses - all the documentation has been shredded. I wonder why that happened..........? Chris
