    Fuel tank location

If space allowed, between engine and bulkhead is probably considered safer but there is no space there on mine or most others I think.

    Fuel tank location

I wasn`t criticising Bart, just repeating Ken`s comments. I`ve never much liked the tanks being where I put them but i can`t easily change that now. It was so long ago now but Ken`s original didn`t have them in the sides like mine I don`t think?

    Fuel tank location

My early KVA has twin tanks mounted in the original position. Early cars like mine had them wherever you wanted to put them as they did not come with instructions. Ken Atwell`s opinion was that if you needed instructions you shouldn`t be building one.

How long until we can get back to the track?

I can`t help thinking about the poor medics who have suffered enough recently. Do they really need the extra work? Maybe when things have settled down a bit you can go back to risk taking like we all used to do?

    Gulf Front Indicators

When I built my car back in the late 1980s it used the original Lucas units that were fitted to the Gulf cars. They were available from many places that stocked Lucas parts back then. I forget the part number but a few places that restore British sports and saloon cars from the 1960s should be...

    Mounting UN1 upside down

Hi I mounted my un1 upside down when I built my 40 back in the late 1980s. It still works fine on the rare days it goes out. Others have copied the idea probably. I did magazine articles on how I did it way back then. I originally did it to get the driveshaft angles less steep as my engine is as...

Gear ratios for the GT40 Mark IV?

Rings a bell that ratio. Ford Capri V6 road cars? I had a few and non of them would quite make those speeds.

    Hot inside my GTD

My daughter will upload my pics. Poor photos so hard to see any details but its just folded aluminium painted black with foam and rubber around edges to seal it. First chance we get she will do it for me. I built it before the internet was here so bear with me.

    Hot inside my GTD

You don`t need to buy a deep panel, just make a panel to fill the gap from the bottom of the rad to meet the bottom of the panel you already have and stop air going under and around edges. The deep panels you sometimes see were as far as I remember a GTD invention and not something I ever saw on...

    Ken Saunders

Hi everyone, I picked up a message last night that might be quite old but my rare visits to Facebook don`t help. A lady was saying her uncle Ken ( Ken Saunders ) had died. I haven't seen Ken for years, ever since he retired to France along with Mike Osborne ( Ex Fortification editor )...

    Ford V8 engine build parts?

Thanks chaps for your comments. I did wonder about Real Steel but couldn't find them and assumed they might have gone. I will look at the site Mike, thanks for that. I originally thought Kenny Coleman just did machining and engine building? I`ll make a list, cheers, Thanks Paul and John too, Kev

    Ford V8 engine build parts?

Hi guys I want to build up another Ford 302 and wonder where do people in the UK go these days for engine parts? My local American engine specialist, Mike Huddart has finished doing anything with engines now? I can build my own if I can find the parts and if I can get any machining done as well...

Steel flywheel, Distributors and coils, ignition leads

I`ll measure one of my gearboxes to see if the flywheel will go inside but I`m sure there`s a way to make it work if not. I think my sump was 6,1/2" deep? to get my engine down low like the originals and your flywheel just fits I think? I just need a new block now. Cheers for now, Kev PS If...

    valve covers

The Weslake heads fitted to the later 40`s were a different shape and the Weslake valve covers widely used on 40 replica`s these days did not exist in period as far as I can remember. The original earlier 40`s that I saw had plain steel rocker covers, Kev Farrington

    Renault UN1 - Background

For what its worth, the first person I knew to use a Renault transaxle in a 40 was Ray Christopher of GTD fame. It was the 369 series gearbox that was replaced later by the UN1 series, cheers Kev Farrington
