    autobox for GT40

You might want to look into the VW/Audi 01V 5 speed tiptronic auto transaxles. They are a logitudinal layout engine ahead of trans requiring no flipping, etc. They are used on vehicles weighting up to 3500lbs with a 4.2 litre V8. I'm not sure whether the trans is coupled with the ECU however. Andy

    930/935 Transaxles

Lynn, The short bellhousing (early style) is good and makes for flipping the R&P easier, AFAIK. Remember, you'll need to spend $$ to get the case machined, welded, and the R&P set up. Check with Rennegade Hybrids. Andy

    Tire PSI

Lots and lots of variables with tires. (And) There's no magic number. Tire pressures change the contact patch, sidewall stiffness, and the overall spring rate. Throw in various rim widths, and there's a lot of stuff to consider. As some have mentioned, tune to your individual needs. Tuning with...

    Kennedy Engineered Products

These folks have been in business for a long time; 35+ years according to the Senior (Hobert) Kennedy. As a mechanical engineer, I was comfortable with how they resolved the engineering issues to meet both the processing and finished product requirements. The majority of their business is still...

    Porsche 915 trans

Might I suggest talking with Jeff Field at Transaxle Engineering for the straight scoop. He pretty much specializes in 915's, and he's been doing it for a very long time. Don't let the site's dune buggy bias mislead you. http://www.transaxleengr.com/index.html Andy

V8 Porsche 914 as the basis of a GT40 replica?

Back in '73, I bought a new 914 2.0 blk/blk, appearance group and A/C. Lowered and with Koni's, it measured exactly 45" high and had a ton of headroom to boot!. This would put the 914 right where it needs to be height wise. One would have to map all the rest of the proportions (driver position...

[ QUOTE ] You know I was thinking what would be real fun would be for a few of us to go down the El Marage dry lake in southern calif for a SCTA speed run weekend and see how fast these things are in their element. After all they weren't really designed for 1/4 miles were they. It would be...

    Audi transmission problems?

[ QUOTE ] Hi Stuart, I have an Audi 016 box in my garage but I haven't run it yet. I've heard the input shaft will twist on these with V8 torque, but not having taken one apart yet, I don't know if there is room to beef up the input shaft. I was talking with Hershal Byrd yesterday who had...

    Ring and pinion

The info I have on the 944 turbo trans shows a 3.375:1 R&P. It would make for decent ratios, though you'd likely have to buy a turbo trans for around $800 to get the R&P out of it, the cost of your original 016 at say $300, and the labor to set it up (and likely freshen up the gearbox at...

Audi OIE 6 speed in RF

Mark, No 6 speed 2WD versions of either Passat or Audi were imported into the US (or Canada, that I know of). I believe that late ('02?) 4-Motion and Quattro's imported into the US were 01V automatics (tiptronic). Andy

    Porsche Tranny Applications?

The Getrag site claims 310Nm for the type 256, which to us is 228lb-ft. I've inquired with Kennedy Eng'g. here in the US, and they make no adapters for this transaxle. The senior Mr. Kennedy told me "it's all wrong" (for a V8) as the starter is in an odd place (he sounded as if he didn't think...

302 SVO - anyone care to guess the max torque?

The attached link is to a dyno comparison of induction systems that are tested using the 345HP Ford crate motor. Interestingly, *their* dyno benchmark motor using a 625CFM four barrel showed 370HP @ 6000/385 lb-ft @ 4100. Andy

    GT40NZ Changing????

An alternate for the mid-engine-trans-diff layout would be to consider the Porsche 928 transaxle. Similar in layout to the later Corvettes', it is durable, good V8 ratio's, and are suprisingly very cheap on the used market (no demand). I've seen them as low as $300. Only problem would be the...

Audi OIE 6 speed in RF

Dan, The 3Q trans is an 093 series listed for the '84 -'87 Audi 80/90. I have not seen one for myself, but I suspect it is different than the 016 used in the Audi 5000. As such, I also suspect that the gears will not interchange. Andy

Re: Hershal\'s Car In Kit Car Hershal, Next time you (or anyone on this forum) get wind of someone wanting to do a magazine write-up of you car, I'd suggest you write the copy yourself. Most of these writers really like it when something is handed to them.....some have preciuos little time...

Cobra Owners October at Willow Springs

    Porsche 944 transaxle

Jim, See my post (AJS) in the manufacturers corner under "01E 6 speed in RF." These are the ratio's "net" (diff x gear) for 1st thru 5th. Should make the math easier. Audi 016 5N 14.80, 8.75, 5.59, 3.99, 3.00 If you need more details (# of teeth/gear, R&P, etc.), drop me a line. Andy

Audi OIE 6 speed in RF

The codes are very important to know when selecting or buying a transaxle from Europe, as you can end up with some pretty lousy ratio's if you're not careful. It's one reason why I asked Robert for the code on the transaxle he is using. For example, the 2WD Audi A8 01E 6 speed (FRM, EKN, CYB)has...
