Ross racing at Phillip Island 18th/19th October

Malc No not grass by the tow eye just wires behind the mesh.I do have a problem with the blade cockpit adjust lever shifting to a softer position of it's own accord so that explains any excessive roll. The corners they take these photos at are the tight 2nd gear ones so they help when checking...

Ross racing at Phillip Island 18th/19th October

Yes I was at it again last weekend at Phillip Island. Nice weather but small grid only 7 runners in the final 2 races. The lead up to the weekend was frantic with even more factory changes which left only one day to service the car, boy that was close but make it I did. I arrived at the circuit...

    Understanding Spring Rates

Tim With coil over shocks I would suggest there are only a couple of spring lengths that will fit and work on a particular unit as in my Koni 8211 type, I have found 8" springs are good and I have had alloy spacers made to set the ride height and allow adjustment in both directions.I have no...

    Why I love Ford engines

Spoke to the Lambo Gallardo driver who blew an engine at Phillip Island during our race meeting a few months ago and he has had to import a new engine. Cost $50,000 That's why I love Ford engines much cheaper for 500hp. He also described an interesting characteristic of the car, under hard...

    Ross climbs the haunted Hill

All 2nd gear Malc. I counted 72 cars entered and only 2 of us broke 1minute.The guy in the Elise 59.36sec and me 59.56sec. I don't think I would be behind him on a circuit like Sandown or Phillip Island. Ross :helmet:

    GT40 on TV (Australia)

I spotted the GT40 as Peter's straight away but was that your missus in the red Cobra Chris? I still reckon that thing of Ray Vandersees is an ugly car. Seeing the TV footage and the lovely weather made me feel like I wanted to be there. Ross

    Ross climbs the haunted Hill

Sorry for that journalistic headline but if I have your attention please enjoy the read. I could have gone to Winton Raceway last weekend and raced against a mixture of cars but I decided instead it would be more interesting to compete at the 'Haunted Hills hillclimb' run by the 'Marque sports...

    spring rates

Have you contacted Tornado on this Bryn? If you go it alone you need to calculate wheel fequencies and from this you can work out spring rates to suit road or track. Track springs are stiffer/higher frequency than road springs. Ross

    Castor/Heavy Steering

I agree with Russ on the wheel width. For it makes sense that as wheels got wider scrub radius increased.Of course if you have wheels on the front that you can see the centre dished back a long way, they no doubt will have a negative offset and that offset adds to the scrub radius just like if...

    Castor/Heavy Steering

Dave Phil was referring to shimming the upper 'A' arm rearward to increase 'caster' not camber. No doubt you have heim joints for setting up the camber. If you draw a line to ground through your front ball joints and measure from this point to the centre of the tyre, this measurement is the...

    Castor/Heavy Steering

Is the steering heavy when not moving? or when cornering.I was under the impression my heavy steering was caused by a large amount of castor until the learned gentlemen on this forum informed me about scrub radius.I have 9" rims shod with slicks on the front of my race car and the steering is...
