    SLC Cooling Questions

I think it was an air pocket after all. 1) I removed any hose connection I could find and tilted the car is various angles to drain the existing coolant. I recovered almost 5 gallons. 2) I replaced the thermostat and heater control valve since the coolant was out. 3) I used by HD /AirVac...

    SLC Cooling Questions

A friend today suggested that perhaps I have a small air pocket blocking the thermostat. He recommended that as i see the temperature rising I should blip the throttle to speed up the water pump eliminating any air voids present. His argument being that at idle the blade is barely turning. Any...

    SLC Cooling Questions

Good afternoon. Some updates. I had a great call with Scott Swartz yesterday that was most enlightening. Speaking with him about the heater bypass, I located a vacuum line that was off my heater control valve. Specifically I was able to find a disconnected vacuum line to the heater control...

    SLC Cooling Questions

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Here are some pictures that might help. #1 is header tank with connections #2 is overflow tank #3 fans installation I went with Mishimoto 11" Race Fans as they provide 1700 CFM per fan at only 12 amps. Given the size of the fans I don't have a shroud...

    SLC Cooling Questions

    Draining coolant

**UPDATE** Coolant swap is finished. 4.5 Gallons of BeCool later, car seems to be running 10-12 degrees cooler than before. Not very scientific I admit - but initial testing shows I am running in the 180 range now where before i was almost always above 190. Thanks again for all the...

    Draining coolant

Thanks Alex and Will. Here is my rationale for changing the coolant. Its 96 with high humidity here in Atlanta recently. On the highway - car runs well about 190-195 degrees. Any stop and go and/or red lights and the temperature creeps up to 210. My pyrometer reads the temperature...

    Draining coolant

I need to replace the coolant in my superlite. I have the Airlift II system (thanks Fran) to replace the coolant, but I'm trying to figure out how to evacuate all the existing coolant. If I drain from the radiator I think I'm leaving a few gallons in (coolant lines, block). Can anyone suggest...

    High water temperatures

Fran hooked me up this spring with a coolant extraction tool. Basically air pressured, plugs into reservoir and creates a vacuum to extract all the coolant. Haven't used it yet, but planning on this weekend. Will update on the progress.

    High water temperatures

Coolant mixture unknown - came in the car already. I bought 8 gallons on Be-Cool that I am going to replace it with this weekend. Thanks for all the information and advice. Very beneficial and very much appreciated.

    High water temperatures

Have had an ongoing challenge with cooling the superlite here in the south. Previous owner added a supplemental electric water pump and I discovered the fans weren't operating properly (see earlier wiring thread). Rectified the fans but I'm still concerned about rising water temperatures when...

    Legacy Wiring Schematics

Just finished updating the wire looms on the superlite. Basically removed (read: stripped) all the wire added by the previous owners and started over. The original wiring loom with fuse block was in good order - just a bunch of stuff added over the past couple of years that wasn't well executed...

    Legacy Wiring Schematics

Thanks Will for talking me off the ledge. As always - yours is a voice of reason. I have started the diagramming using my trust ohmmeter but uncovering the rats nest has been problematic. There is a lot of splices into the original harness that just doesn't seem to make sense. In some cases...
