    Tornado TSC GT40

Mark, When I was an undergrad at UC San Diego, we would walk across the street and sit on the cliffs further south down the coast and have conversations with the pilots as they were able to just sit aloft in the wind quite often. I've even seen a few planes get launched. As an employee at...

    Tornado TSC GT40

Hence the prevalence of various gliders off Torrey Pines - the gliderport! I actually watched someone chase a hawk around the cliffs there one day. The hawk finally got sick of it, went into a dive, and the RC plane went in after. Needless to say, the hawk had no problem pulling up out of...

    Name That Car

Not a Nembo GT, the Neri and Bonacini Studio GT Due Litri. Neri & Bonacini Studio GT Due Litri The Nembo was a Ferrari 250GT Cabriolet rebodied by Neri and Bonacini as a Spyder (Tom Meade was the designer for N&B). They did a few of these. Ian

Roaring Forties #36 Joe's Completion Log

Hey David, Not sure if you remember me, but I lived up in Sacto back in 2000 - 2006. We connected back then over Cobras and such. Glad to see Mark's car has found a new home. And, yes, knowing what you have done with various toys in the past, I am sure the RF is in good hands and will turn...

    Israel and Gaza?

Guys, I posted similar to this before in another thread about Israel/Gaza. But, again: The name "Palestinian" comes from the Egyptian word "Peleset", a seafaring group of people who invaded the region in 1175 - 1150 BCE, and then intermingled with the Canaanites. "Palestine" itself was not...

    New 1966 gt40 kit available

Man, that GT40 chassis has a lot of curved/bent tubes. IIRC, that is not the wisest of choices. Ian
  11. I

    Could you? Would you?

While true, round tube is stronger pound for pound (or kilo to kilo), round vs. square of similar dimension shows that round is about 75% lighter, but square is considerably stronger. For more equivalent strengths/weights, as an example, 3/4" x 0.065 square is about the same strength and weight...

    GT40 race car engines

OK, just guessing based on memory: The big sheet metal box at the back is the FIA mandated luggage box. The sill holds the oil cooler and tank, and ducting to the cooler. Tall reservoir on the bulkhead is the coolant overflow/expansion tank. Ian

My next project - opinions please!

Seriously, if possible, find a way to move the fuel out of the sills and into the center somehow. Or, twin tanks inside the engine compartment like the Pantera and FFR GTM and others. Set it up to accept a decent 6 point cage, maybe even an 8 point. Also, like the GT, additional cage bracing...

    Original GT40 ad

103 was originally fitted with an Indy motor, then had the 289 installed, and then a 325. When it was restored to original, a 255 Indy 4 cam was fit. Here is a photo of 103 with the Indy 4 cam in it. You can see the overflow tank right where the flap would open into...

I believe water since that is, IIRC, where the overflow tank sits. I don't think they could reach any place (easily) from that flap to add oil, but I could be wrong. Ian

Any framing store should have UV protection options. There are also sprays available to use on the item itself before framing. Neither will absolutely prevent fading, but they will provide significant protection. And, if you are really worried about preservation, use both the spray and UV...

    Racing Setup - Hooptie 500

OK, here's a somewhat serious answer to the orignal question, at least form my point of view. Horsepower/torque - while somewhat important, not overly so. You need enough to get up to 200 mph quickly since, as others have pointed out, road courses with long enough straights or two or more...
