...Daniel states. In the UK this would mean you could not convert it to an historic plate (e.g. from the 1960s), also there is a snobbery about Q plates as they tend to mean 'kit cars'. Therefore they hold less value - but this depends on the buyers opinion of course. I think more important...

...tend not to go for more!) £12K is probably not unreasonable but IMHO it depends what your ultimate aim is. AND don't forget once a Q plate always a Q plate , I know no way to change the reg. to a regular number - and this will affect the ultimate value of a good car more than a cheap one.

GT40 replica for Mini Cooper money

Graham, Not meaning to go on further but, as I asked Nick, who has kindly emailed me, would such a car be registered as new or on a Q plate, or is this purely from a racing perspective we are talking about. I apologise for my lack of knowledge and reference to the article, but old uncle Henry...

At the moment just a wannabe :)

My understanding is that unless you use all new parts (ish) and get a new registration, the only other legitimate possibility is a Q plate. If you are given a Q plate you are STUCK with it. Unless you can find a 40 already registered which no longer exists and you can take over its identity? If...

GT40 number plate for sale...ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Re: GT40 number plate for sale...ha ha ha ha ha ha Hi all After getting my car SVA'd, it was issued with a Q plate. I complained to the licencing office (as I had all the necessary documents) and they changed it to an age related plate. The thing is, on the log book, the licence number is...

Because there was no documentation with it when it re-entered the country it had to be re-registered and gained the Q plate (while this seems to be a turn off for some owners, I've never had any adverse reaction from people looking at it, and at the end of the day its a...

    Registration Year.

...all new parts, you can get a new registration. The emissions are dependant on the block age. 1971 will mean just a smoke test. As for the gearbox, unless you kind find documentation to prove it is new, then you could end up with a Q plate Its all detailed in the SVA manual and the DVLA Brett

The transaxle looks like a Citroen box, though I may be wrong. Don't know if this would be a Q plate - which would affect the value...

    Christie's Auction

...Auction Presumably this car has no UK registration number so it will need an SVA test, and then, as it seems from the catalogue description that some of the parts are second hand, that will qualify it nicely for a Q plate!! Can you imagine spending all that money and ending up with a Q plate??

Advice needed, please help ref. MK1 GTD40

Hello All, I am looking at buying my friends MK1 GTD40(a very early one!). I know nothing about the pitfalls of this kind of purchase? Here is what I can tell you about the car: V.early MK1 GTD40, Gulf colours on a 'Q' plate. It is a bit tatty with bodywork needing a bit of re-laminating and...

...of hoops to jump through. For GT40 replicas this invariably means SVA test. There is then the the option of either a new registration or a Q plate. There is the provision in the 'new' category for 1(one) component (vague description) to not be 'new', but to be 'as new' (ie reconditioned). The...

    Q Plates?

Fred, Fred, on the assumption that you are not aware, in the UK Q plate = kit car. Although it really means car of uncertain origin/age, and is given often to imports, its really snob value to have a real plate and it does affect resale value too. Also if you have a Q plate you can't change...

    Wanted:GTD chassis

...if you found a used chassis, used bodywork, scrapyard engine, scrapyard transmission, old granada brakes and stuck it together, went with a Q plate, you might be under 10k, but would it be safe, stop, perform, be reliable, look good? I would be surprised if the end result would be acceptable...

    Wanted:GTD chassis

...you use just 2 major components from a single donor car. At least you can then put cover plate on the car rather than have to live with a Q plate. To do this you will have to convince the DVLA that you have used say, the engine, and say the steering from the donor car. You have to prove...

    Q Plates?

...plates on a car but only for ones indicating an older origin, not younger - obviously to stop people trying to con buyers. Therefore since Q plate means of uncertain origin/age there is no way the DVLA will allow you to change the plate. Whether there are other ways to do it I can't say (e.g...
