    Party! Party! Party!

Hey, Howard. It looks like I'll actually be able to make it this year. Looking forward to it. It was good seeing you at Sears Point. Scott

how many GT40's in the world

I've got GT40 Replication, Ltd chassis number 31. It was the first car in the US and there were at least three more brought in after that. I believe Neal in WA, Alain in KS, and Dennis out east got cars after mine. I also believe that Phil Ware, the original GT40 Replications guy, numbered...

    Party Party Party

Aw, poo. I'm racing at Laguna that weekend. Looks like I'll be unable to improve on my 50% party average... At least this means I won't have to make excuses for the complete lack of progress I've made on the 40 in the last 12 months. Scott

What type of mufflers are you running?

Car chemistry inserts Hey Farhad. Any chance you did a before and after HP (even butt dyno) test with those mufflers? This might be apples and oranges, but I welded a two-disc car chemistry insert into the cat replacement pipe on my Spec Miata, and it dropped the sound from 95 to 90dB...

    I think I did a dumb thing...

The counter intuitive chassis thing was setting up the car for right-hand turns on a predominantly (eight of 11 turns) left-hand track. So much for "road racers rarely use asymmetrical setups". I was pleased to find that my theory about being more aggressive in my own hardware panned out...

    I think I did a dumb thing...

Well, the car survived taking me and my father through SCCA driver's school at Thunderhill Park this past weekend. Three days of caning the car around the short course and all it wanted from us was two tanks of fuel a day. I won my dry race from 10th on the random grid, and we managed to keep...

    GOT MY SB100

Congratulations, Farhad. How many pints will it cost me to get access to all your paperwork and sneaky inside contacts when I get around to needing my SB100? Scott

SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA, PCA Racers in the US?

I raced a couple of times with Skip Barber, got my SCCA license, then let it lapse when the '40 arrived. Just bought a Spec Miata and am planning on running the SCCA school at Thunderhill in March with the thought of racing at Laguna Seca in April. We ran the SM at Laguna last weekend and had...

    GT40/Noble M400 comparison

There has been some discussion of the relative quickness of original GT40s as compared to modern sports and racing cars. This Top Gear video has an interesting head-to-head with a Noble M400. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4661851097984943684&q=top%20gear Scott

Actually, Farhad, I've got Fuller's London Pride pale ale on tap right now. Does that mean you aren't coming over? Scott

    Photos of RF Fiberglass

Question regarding those BRMs: Are you able to get a 5-pin adaptor under them or are they set up for 6-pin? I ask, because they lack the round boss most of the replicas have, which I always assumed was to provide enough meat for the pins. They look fantastic, by the way. Scott

    I think I did a dumb thing...

Ron, I've done a wee bit of racing (Formula Dodge at Laguna Seca) and really enjoyed it. I did feel like I had to go a little easy because I didn't own the car. Not to mention the whole locking wheels/getting airborne thing. The short-term plan is to get the car streetable and do a bunch of...

    I think I did a dumb thing...

Hi, Don. The bang-for-the-buck thing was sort of what I was thinking. I need to put a catalytic converter on it and get it re-registered so I can drive it to the track (I don't have space for a trailer), then I'll see if I can't drive the hell out of it. Scott

    I think I did a dumb thing...

Bud, I keep telling myself that somehow having this thing around will keep me in the garage more, increasing my chances of working on the 40. We'll see how well _that_ works. Scott

    I think I did a dumb thing...

Brand new Spec Miata on a '93 tub. I'll have to sort through the thing, but it looks like all the goodies are there. Like I needed another distraction. But I just couldn't stand wasting all that expensive driving education any more. Scott

    Cooling Pipes

As an aside, copper weighs significantly more than stainless by volume, and a whole lot more by equivalent strength. It is easier to work with, though... Scott

it is possible to drive the gt40 in boots?

Piloti makes several models of "driving shoe" that are comfortable enough to walk in. Some of them look pretty decent, too, and they all have a very spiffy vintage racing tire tread-style pattern on the sole. Not cheap, though. Regular driving shoes are very difficult to walk in. Or stand...
