1983 kva mk3

Mmm new to this, I have just had a barn find, the KVA mk3 was purchased in 1983 and has sat unbuilt in the dry. A guy in the local asked if I could help him to shift this strange looking car with my trailor and did I know what it was and had it any value. Pretending to have know interest or knowledge what so ever the kit is now in my workshop. By the way this kit is very early and has the agricultural granada, I think, rear end. Has anyone built one of these early ones, I want to build a useable road car not a racer, I have another car for that. I like the curiosity surrounding this early kit and feel like building it as it is. Is it preserving a bit of history or is it stupid? I have also an audi 012 trans and 302 sitting under my bench so felt that I may as well use them, adapter plate???????????
I would love to hear any constructive comments or at least chat to someone from whom I could learn. Many thanks Neil.

Hi Neil,

Welcome to the forum.
The later "C" type KVA chassis is the one to have, but while your car is not built, and if indeed it is the earlier spec car, it would be better for you to see about getting it upgraded to the later spec (imho)
That would bring it pretty much in line with most other replicas out there.
LOTS of advice on this forum, the MK3 can look stunning when built nicely. There a black MK3 which I think was build and owned by a couple of brothers that I see at shows sometime. It is an amazing car.
best of luck and post us some pictures

Neil,

Congratulations on your find, my advice would be to speak to Mick or Adam at Southern GT. He will be able to supply anything missing and advise you, especially if the car is not registered, and needs getting through IVA.

Depending on your budget he may even persuade you to graft on one of his famous rear suspension modifications.

Good luck with the build and don't forget to start a build thread.

Hi Neil,

Congrats on your find. LOADS of very knowledgeable people on here who have helped me with my build along the way.

Good luck and get some piccies up.

Cheers,

Graham.

Neill,

I have a KVA with manuals, etc around. Did you just get the fiberglass body or do you have the frame and suspension components?

John

PS: Did you steal it from the guy?

Hello Neil,
Interesting find you have there. If you enjoy building cars it will keep you happy for quite some time. There were no build manuals for this car, Ken Atwell said if you need instructions you shouldnt be building one. He was right, back then there was no replica industry as we recognise it today and you were largely on your own. Thats why the GT40 Replica Owners Club was formed, later renamed as the GT40 Enthusiasts Club. We bounced ideas off each other and some of us finished cars but as your find confirms, many didnt. I think your best plan would be to join our club and take it from there. Listen to advice from different people and follow whichever seems right for you. Enjoy the journey, Cheers for now, Kev Farrington
