G50-10 w/LSD & Race prep\'ed

Porsche G50-10 is advertised on the Race Parts forum on Rennlist. The guy wants $6K, which kind of shocked me, but this transaxle is ready for race use: 8:32 Ring and Pinion, GT-2 Limited Slip, Stock Gears, ERP Billit Side Cover Plate, Steel Synco's, External Squirters. Buyer Pays Shipping.

Shocked you, meaning too high?

I resorted back to a list of G50 info that you sent me awhile back and it says G50-10's came with a 3.44:1 r&p. Obviously this one has been changed to 4.00:1. I have a guy in Las Vegas huntng down a G50-52 for me, what's your opinion or comparison between a -52 and -10?

Yeah, upon first reading, I did think it was too high. But on second thought, considering what he has done to the box, while not inexpensive, I'm not sure it's too high.

Assuming he has stock gear ratios other then the R&P I think the 4:1 will be way to short. Will have similar gearing to an Audi.

Gary,

Agree but I contacted the seller and he said he does have the 3:44 ring & pinion. Although the G50-10 is not as strong as a -50. It's typically matched to a normally aspirated motor. My $.02

Re: G50-10 w/LSD & Race prep\'ed

FWIW,

Steve (the seller) has been a fixture in the west coast porsche world for many years with a heavy emphasis on club and entry level racing. I've never heard somebody speak poorly of him or his work in the many years I've been in porschelist/rennlist. I know that some of the featured work on modified cars in Excellence magazine has been performed at his place.

I obviously cannot vouch for the tranny but I'd be pretty comfortable since he has to go by reputation and customer service rep like most marque specialists.

From looking at the specs, I'd say this tranny is currently set up to be a bulletproof box for a n/a or turbo porsche with big rear rubber. The R&P ratio/GT2 diff/steel sliders and squirters would make this tansaxle a no brainer for a whole season of porsche club racing.

No financial connection but I think my real 73 RS ducktail was bought from him many many years ago.

Tim,

I am not sure if you know Chuck, but I would trust his statements and opinions explicitly.

Re: G50-10 w/LSD & Race prep\'ed

Thanks Lynn,

I was paying attention to what Chuck was saying.

I did email the seller some questions and he led me to believe that this tranny was not suited for V8 power and that the -50,52 would be a smarter choice.

Re: G50-10 w/LSD & Race prep\'ed

Either the 50 or 52 is much better suited to V8 grunt (especially if you are running lsd, 1075 flares and big tires).

The number of trannies that will come available during the off season is amazing. Keep an eye on the pelican parts boards as well.

Best,

Chuck
