Heat and clearance around axle boots

Does anybody have experience on minimum spacing between the exhaust tubes/pipes from the CV boots?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I'm going to be tight here, and wondered what would be acceptable from the rubber and grease perspective. It looks like I'm going to be in the neighborhood of 2" or so, which scares me a bit. I can design additional clearance, but this will entail a lot more work if only to gain another 1" or so. Heat shields are probably a given, but to what degree (no pun intended).

Terry:
I think your best bet is a heat shield. Also I used silicone boots on my inner CV joints, Got them at NAPA, they were relatively cheap. Made by Dorman, if I remember they were about $15.00 each. Much more compliant than standard neoprene boots.

Cheers
