interchangable Parts?

I'm new to the site and had a few general questions. I was wondering if most parts from one kit/manufacturer would be interchangable with another. Say from a RF to a GTD and so-forth. I apologize if this is a silly question but i'm curious?

The short answer is VERT little. As regards chassis and suspension, NONE and this is the same for RF and Tornado or CAV etc.

Some of the trim parts should be interchangeable such as the side windows or light covers (our light covers were /are on an original car in Australia). Other parts like lights and switches are interchangeable.

I hope this helps,

Best wishes,

I hate do disagree with Robert; and I will say he is nearly right, but not completely. My GT40 has a chassis that if somewhat similar to a KVA. It has uprights from a DRB (GT40 Australia). It will have side windows from either GTSupercars or GT40 Replication Ltd. (New Zealand) The light covers, rear clip vent covers and gas caps are generic- in that they were not made by GT40 manufacturer. Seats, rack-n-pinion, steering column are other parts that "might" interchange. One would just have to look, measure and scratch his head over these. And everything would need to be fitted (but then again most parts made for a specific replica have to be fitted to one extent or another.

But to say I can just buy a GTD widget and it will bolt right into a RF, then Robert is right, it is doubtful. Can it be made to work? Maybe. But then again, maybe not.

Agree with Lynne. I think it all depends on engineering capability of teh person trying to make something fit.

Then again, get a baby to do it for you! Did you know they can make things fit where adults are convinced it previously impossible? Things like, two video tapes into one video recorder at the same time! RF upright to a GTD chassis must be a peice of cake after that.

the reason i ask is because i'm starting to look into buying a kit and while i like some of the features of one company, i like some of the other features from a dif. company. For example, i really think the RF looks like one of the all around best kits for the kind of money i have to spend but i noticed that out of every pic i've seen of one, none of them have the door glass latches. and i didn't notice it as an option on the site. Its really just small things like that.

P.S. By the way, thanks, i now understand why my VCR no longer functions.

Ferdinand,

All of the latches are available through Roaring Forties as are all the other "bright work".

I agree with the above two learned gentlemen in that almost EVERYTHING is interchangeable but the ammount of "butchery" or engineering prowess will vary from one part to another.

Please send me an e-mail with your queeries and I will answer them all. I made a MkII rear for a customer and a set of Hallibrand pin drive wheels for another customer because we did not have them and I thought that it was time we made them.

Remember that there are NO problems only well desguised solutions !!!!!

Best wishes,

Robert
