Last year my wife and I were invited by Allen Grant to see his Lola M6GT at his facility in Palm Springs, California. We had a very pleasant visit and took a few pictures of his Lola, which I posted on this website. Allen told us he was writing a book about it so I wonder if he collaborated with John Starkey or if Grant's book will be a separate publication?
The Simeone Museum in Philadelphia is having a talk on June 4th about the evolution of the GT40 starting with the Lola. Allen Grant, Mike Teske, and Janos Wimpffen will be be there to talk about the cars. On display will be Allen Grant's Lola Mk 6 as well as a GT40 Mk I, Mk II, and Mk IV.
Aha, it is Allen Grant's Lola! If anyone goes to this, ask him how his book is coming along. He was excited to see my photo of it at the Nurburgring as he said he had not seen any color pictures of the Mk6 GT before. I think he was planning to include it in his book. Too bad John Wyer and John Horsman are not still with us; they could contribute valuable information to this talk.
Your missing out all those at FAV, Shelby, Kal Kar, Holman and Moody, Alan Mann, Bruce Mclaren, Richard Attwood, John Ethridge, Roy Lunn, Ken Miles Phil Remington and Len Bailey to name a few. There were so many Test drivers, Drivers and mechanics and designers Its not a one man show!
Thank you for letting me know, Ben. I've just now ordered a copy. My wife, Joline, and I were invited to visit Allen at his shop in Palm Springs last year and we saw his Lola GT Mk6 and a Cobra that he had raced. It was a very pleasant visit.
The Brown Santa (UPS) just now delivered my copy of John Starkey's book about the Lola M6GT that is owned by Allen Grant. I've only looked at it briefly but it looks very good. I'm pleased that he got the story right on page 29 about the Ferrari mechanics. My color photo of the Lola at the Nurburgring is on page 32.
