Are steel monocoques stronger than a steel tube space frame (for example, the GT40 R-type replica built by the New Zealand factory has a "Full FAI racing specification [heat-treated, pre-treated, grit blasted] space frame made in seamless Chrome-Molly" whereas their GT40 Original replica has a "monocoque construction using steel sheet riveted and welded with integral roll bar")?
If you got 30 year old Jacky Ickx, replicated him, placed one in a modern GT40 replica and another in an original GT40 of the same type, who would win? *laughs*
Who do you think builds the best quality GT40 replicas for the money, excluding the Lee Holman built Mk. IIs? I find the New Zealand built GT40 "R-type" to be built of the best materials, but also like the Roaring Forties models, with options such as the wheel flares of the later Mk. 1s to be simple, but aesthetically pleasing additions. I would not know which to pick (because of lack of knowledge and there are so many makers of the GT40 replicas). Of course, I would be interested to hear about other replicas (I read a rumor that Shelby bought a CAV-built GT40 replica).
Would it be possible (without much work) to take a rear clip from a Roaring Forty model and graft it to a New Zealand model? Or the opposite (New Zealand model rear clip to a Roaring Forty model)?
Is it possible to make a Ford 347 small block smog legal, even if you have all these computer options, and headers, and turbos, and whatever else?
What is a small block engine, and what is a big block engine?
How are cars like this registered/titled? What does it mean when you title a car (for example: looking on ebay, one may see a Factory Five Cobra replica with a 1965 title)? What would be the insurance on a factory built replica such as a Roaring Forties model?
I am obviously ignorant when it comes to most details of cars (except the fact that the GT40 is the neatest car ever made). I am 19 and (surprise surprise) not rich, so I pose these questions merely out of curiousity (and a little megalomania). Thanks if you decided to reply. Dream a little dream, eh?
