Living alone does have a few drawbacks like when I want to remove the rear bodywork of my car. I have done it alone but it is never fun. What I needed was a sky crane but lacking one of those this is what I came up with.
I built a simple 2x4 frame on some old casters. The hardest part was cutting the cradle to match the tail of the car. I don't think I would try to do this without making the carpeted parts match the curve of the rear spoiler. I made the part that went under the car first a little narrower than the back so it self centers between the tires. There is also a cable that runs from the cart to an eyelet on the inside top edge so it doesn't just keep going and a strap on the outside to pull it up.
The carpeted area is slightly higher than the rear pivot on the car so it lifts right off the car. I can now take the back off or replace it in under 10 min. So I don't put undue load on any part that may not take it well I put lift up supports that cradle the metal pivot. The pictures should answer the 1001 question I wasn't able to. Just remember to plug the rear lights back in or your local Highway Patrol will gladly explain the errors of your ways.
Version 2.0 will be a little smaller but not much. And yes I do live on a dirt road with a dark blue car, I must be nuts.
