Something for the truckers: Li\'l Big Rig

I was in Nashville yesterday on business and when my meetings were done, I went to visit a GT40(DRB) owner I know there. Bob was a school chum of Dennis Bretton in Australia and is the one that tipped me off on the use of 88-92 Corvette rear breaks on the DRB uprights that I bought for my car.

Some time ago he showed me a project he was working on, but swore me to secrecy until he had completed it. In his backyard workshop he was about 90% done with styling a fiberglass Kenwood replica to be put on a Chevy truck chassis. Well its done now and he started marketing the truck shortly after the first of the year. It is a very cool way to go if you are into trucks! It is put on a '73 - '87 truck chassis, most of which have 350s or 305s, and utilizes many of the parts from the donor. Most of the trucks from this era, like most Chevy trucks, will have bodies so rusty that they will need a new body just for GP. So, this makes a great alternative.

He has the lil' Big Rig Web Site where you can check out the various kits: starter, upgrade an customizing. The tandem axle is an upgrade. He will also have his demo truck (seen above) at the Hunter Auto Expo in the Fairgrounds in Nashville March 12, 13, & 14, which is a huge automotive show that ESPN will be covering this year.

Sadly, Bob has sold his GT40 and it should be headed to California as I type this. But, Bob is a great guy who sold his half of thriving machine shop business in Nashville to persue the building and marketing of this very unique addition to the component car and, now, truck industry. If you know anyone in to trucks, lets give Bob a little support and tell them about it. I promise it won't be something you'll have to apologize about later; it is a VERY well done li'l BIG RIG.

Thanks,
Lynn

I am not sure how many of you went to the website to take a look at the li'l Big Rig, but in the picture I posted there is nothing to give you a clue about the scale. It looks like a semi tractor in the picture. In reality it is not. Take a look:

It is on a 1/2 ton truck chassis. He also has a 3/4 ton chassis in his shop that he is fitting it to. The truck will have a fifth wheel receiver on it for the auto show in Nashville and it has been designed so that a fifth wheel trailer will swing inside of the sleeper cab. The RVers should go crazy over this thing.

Want a unique car hauler?

I wanted to resurrect this thread because Bob has a new offering to turn a Dodge diesel into a miniature big rig. This would make an awesome car hauler as would his other kits that will convert a long bed Full Size Chevy Pickup (any year from 1973 to 1987), or a Dodge 1500/2500 2 WD standard cab into a Big Rig look alike. Whiile originally designed to suit early model Chevy pickups, the Li'l Big Rig kit can be adapted to fit most American built full size pickups.

The black truck is a Dodge Turbo-diesel underneath. (click pic for more info)

Lynn
