The Way It Was

Before PC. The nation used to vent it's frustrations through this classic British comedy and the character of Alf Garnett who was the most bigoted neo facist patriot we ever produced. His arguments were so uncompelling that it was extremely laughable and yet put both left & right political extremism into sharp focus.

Those of a "certain age" will remember Alf Garnett with affection. It's also worth mentioning to our American friends that the blonde haired guy playing the part of Alf's son-in-law is Anthony Booth, ex pm Tony Blair's wife Cherie's, father. (The one that blew himself up with a petrol bomb trying to kill his wife Cherie's mother)

They've thoughtfull put sub titles on the second clip - even for someone raised in London I have to listen carefully!

Brilliant!

YouTube - Alf goes off on one again about communists and prisons

YouTube - alf garnett gets pissed

Thanks for posting these Keith..... brings back a lot of memeories of my childhood when "Till Death Us Do Part" was shown. It might surprise a lot of Americans to know that one of the spinoff shows from the aforementioned was "All in the Family" the supposed American equivalent TV program along with "Steptoe and Son" which became "Sandford and Son" in the US...both written by Johnny Speight. Sorry for the slight thread drift.
