Who' engine is it!

How do you tace the history of an engine? It is easy for people to verbally say an engine is from a specific team or car but how do you know? Did the GT40 teams keep those records? Are there parts that would indicate such a special use? Maybe some custom work done to the engine that is identifiable?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ronnie Spain's book has the engine numbers listed for each car when it left the factory. However, if the engine was replaced, it doesn't indicate the replacement engine ID.

Sounds like 427 fever to me.

I think you are going to have a hard time with written documentation on engines. You would be especially lucky if you found someone that had a receipt when the engine changed hands from one party to another. I do not know of anyone that had documentation on engines.

Good luck Dean. Just go ahead and buy it if its a good deal. Start the paper trail at that point.
