I have just had my ZF rebuilt and following some research it was decided to put 3.5l of Valvoline GL-5 75W-90 Fully Synthetic LSD oil in.
Reading various threads I think the RBT recommendation converts to about 2.8l.
The reason for the rebuild was due to damage to CWP due to lack of lubrication. This was running with oil level at 195mm below bottom of thread in top cover oil breather. With 3.5l level is now around 30mm higher in box and should lubricate CWP.
I also had problems with oil leaking out of input seal prior to rebuild even with lower oil level. This has been fully sealed during the rebuild and so far no leaks even with higher oil level.
