Driver identification lights

Hi All -
I have searched and searched for details on the driver identification lights used on the right rear fender of some GT40's (pic below).

Does anyone have any details on the size, brand, etc. on these?

Thanks!!!

I don't know if it is true, but I believe that these were used on British WWII bombers (Lancaster?), but I can't tell you who actually made them.

They come up on eBay with some frequency (particularly the GB version), and are usually red or green, but I think that there was an orange version. The color used depended on which chassis you are replicating, and they switched from side to side, depending on what track was driven. Le Mans=right, Daytona=left, etc.

There are a few other threads on this site. Try the search function, and I'm sure you'll see what you need.

Try terms like: identification light, or air ministry light

What he said.

Oh, and contrary to the add, they are not that rare.

I have one, everbody I know has one. We use them in the garden to light our water features.

Really, they are not that rare.

There are at LEAST three on Ebay at any given time. The air ministry must have had a warehouse full of spares.
