F1 in 2014.

Apparently Nico was pissed that Lewis wouldn't pull over for him. WTF he was several car lengths back when that call came and didn't appear to be catching Hamilton. A bit piss weak from Nico who said when Hamilton's car caught fire that he was disappointed because he wanted to race him. Had a change of heart apparently when Lewis wouldn't let him by.

Can it be 3 weeks since the last post here? Where have all the fans gone? :shifty:

Anyway, rubbish race today - agree Pete? :dozey:

Maybe F1 is getting the interest it deserves.

Double bloody points in Abu Dhabi... What a farce.
We people that used to love F1 should start a movement to boycott that race.
If that movement hasn't already begun...

F1... Still a fucking joke...

Hmmm. I thought it was a good race today with lots of unpredictable action up front...

No spoilers though, we'll wait a while so that everyone can see the race in their respective time zones..

Best season for about 4 years thus far I would say....

They wanted to make it a soap opera instead of a sport and that's what they have got. The audience to boot. That podium debacle and it's justification should have anyone who cares about F1 and thinks wrestling is worthless crap seriously worried.
F1 was racing, making it about personalities has ruined it.

You know by now that I am lost to F1, divorced due to irreconcilable differences. I like the technology, I think the energy recovery etc is fantastic. I can't wait to see it used in a motor race.

Tim.

Somehow I edited out my comment about complicated rules the purpose of which is not to create goalposts to work within but simply to engineer a better show for their target audience, but you get my drift.
A race is not a show to me, it's a race.

I completely agree about that podium rubbish. It seems they want to appeal to a soccer style mentality..

No offence to fans of 'the beautiful game' but I turned off that 'sport' in the late '70's because of all the manufactured dramas, huge salaries and prima donna players.

A good motor race is a good motor race though, and today, I saw a good motor race.. It's a shame it was largely brought about by gimmicks but you couldn't fault the driver skills on show.

The reaction to the incident shows the ignorance of the spectators. As if the driver concerned did it on purpose or has some sort of terrible history of misjudgment. It was a sad thing to watch.

For all the bullshit that is now F1, those drivers are doing something that is right on the edge and slight errors of judgement are a part of the deal.

As I said before, F1 has the audience it's rulemakers were after, I am proud not to be one of those bastards. I come from the days when F1 was a real sport and not just a reality TV show.

Tim.

I guess you can tell I am annoyed... I just hate that F1 has lost its dignity. Or perhaps I should say sold it.
Double points FFS! I didn't think it could get worse.

I don't intend to spoil.

OK Tim, now .. and breathing.....deep breaths from the diaphragm..

And in..... out..... in..... out...and in......and out....

Relax..... :)

Keith could you use you super powers to lock this thread before they wake down under:hanged:

I thought the crowd were a little bit harsh on Rosberg , in years gone by there would have been plastic flying around all over the place. Its not really on giving the lad a hard time over a bit of close quarters racing that went wrong. The F1 crowd have been bleating about the lack of it for years.

Hehe thanks :)

You know, it happened here at Bathurst, although for different reasons. Jim Richards, one of the drivers concerned, told the spectators they were a pack of bastards and he was right.
You know what the geniuses here decided to do? They changed things to give those bastards more of what they wanted. Now we are stuck with Australian NASCAR - V8 taxicabs.
I've said it here before but I'll say it again - thank <insert non justification for violence and murder deity here> SBS Australia for their coverage of real racing in Australia.

Tim.

Wtf?! I said 'thank (insert non justification for violence and murder deity here)' for SBS... and it disappeared... Two weird deletions in a few posts...

I guess only violent gods exist these days...

Bernie wants his massive paychecks, the manufactures want to sell cars, the sponsors want exposure and the tracks want people to come watch in order to pay Bernie ransom for the honor of holding a race. And lets not forget money pays for track mods that make runoff room, and provide a safer track so we can watch (how many?) LIVING ex-world champions in one race.

All this stuff cost MONEY, what generates money? Interest from the public, what generates interest and therefore spectators? Drama, real or manufactured.

Real racers, or race fans know what they are watching, the ''oblivious'' only care about drama. But there are only so many educated fans, so where is F1 going to get the empty headed "fans" to pay for all this? From people that don't know cwap about what they are watching. Hence the "reception" for Nico.

As much as we may not like it the oblivious are paying for all this.

But this begs to ask questions, one of which is..... if there is so much money in F1, why are people still able to buy rides and why are teams in the need to sell them? Some of that money needs to make it further down the grid.

Like everything else, F1 has evolved. It may not have evolved into what we, as die hard fans from the beginning, actually appreciate and we should be wary of judging things from a historical perspective.

The new generation want, to a large degree, crashes, noise, drama. They seem to want bleeding ears and terrifying speeds, in short they want out of F1, everything that has been legislated out of their lives in the name of Elf & Safety and the Green Lobby.

F1 is trying to give them all that and it's their sad compromise (and the perceived necessity to keep "manufacturers" on side) that you are witnessing today.

In my opinion, it is the "Manufacturers" who have largely caused this hiatus - and they have not brought anything to the party except a bigger pot to exploit for the chosen few.

Its still good in bits, but it has become a confusing jumble of mixed messages and sometimes you have to scorch the earth to generate new shoots. I think that for F1, that time is not far off.

Good race today though :)

I like that - very accurate. I was an avid fan before the "parity" nonsense.

Jim Richards is one of the most talented old school racers out there, Didn't he race a Porsche GT3 or something? He should have had an international career..
