Alex's SLC build thread

I received my car a couple of weeks ago, so I think it is time to start a build thread!



Configuration, I ordered the full kit with these options:

  • Gel coat Ninja Green
  • Street tail
  • F14 rims 19 x 9.5/10 front and 20 x 12 rear
  • Center lock wheels
  • Low mount mirror
  • 2 pieces windows
  • Track carbon fiber splitter
  • Carbon fiber fender vents
  • Inner fender panel kit; fiberglass
  • Parking brake kit
  • 6-point street + removable track-day door roll bars
  • Carbon fiber seats
  • Carbon fiber cockpit tub
  • Front heat box fiberglass deflector
  • Billet shifter
  • Nose hinges
The plan is to do a Graziano with LS7 apiend 650 hp (plan can change !lol)

I have in mind a to have a comfortable car to drive on the road, but with the drivability of a race car to do track days here and there (so comfortable but not too much )

First week was cleaning of the car, inventory (many parts in back orders) and building the buck for the body.

I had to fix an issue with a sagging front plate due to a sagging foot box by bolting it inside the foot box.

Second week I started fuel tank area (found a leak that I need to weld)

prepare to make solid coolant pipe (waiting on elbow to weld) and brake line ( I not happy with that, not fitting very good and missing line for the front brakes so now waiting on new line and tool to redo it)

One of the challenge is that the car had so many upgrades, sometime the wiki, the manual or the pictures on gt40 arre not matching what I have...
Brake line is a good example, I don't see what I need to connect the front brakes in the kit

The brake lines have changed over the model years. Post up the pics of what you have and either I or another builder may be able to help.

Bill at RCR has always been very helpful replying to questions as well.

Many folks make their own lines for one reason or another. The fellow builders on this board are very helpful and just ask away.
 
The brake line I have are like this:
Rear RH and LH are in totally different locations

But this is what I have left to connect the front RH and LH, not sure how I can connect RH and LH together

Also, what is the best location to drill for the front brake?

To me the rear right and left are unusable as is. My factory lines ended an inch or two from the rear stanchions. Right is too long, left is too short.

The rear brake lines and clutch line going to the front of the footbox looks good.

A far as front brake lines, looks like you are missing them. I would contact Bill.

With regard to your question, I think you are asking where to drill to mount the flexible lines to a bulkhead? My answer is not sure, my kit came with external front lines, some have internal front lines and the hoses connect to a bulkhead mount in the chassis toward the rear fork.
 
thank you Joel. Good to hear, so I am not the only one with that problem. I ordered a roll of stainless line and will run all new lines (even at the front the bends are not following the body as much as I would like). For the front line, I will also run new ones, so I will not worry about them.

and yes my question is where to drill the holes for the flexible lines in the legs area. Any disadvantage to mount the line in inside or outside from your point of view? ( I like the idea to keep the cockpit as "clean" as possible)

I think the advantage of mounting the lines inside is that the flexible brake line goes right to the bulkhead fitting and is at a 90 degree angle which works well. The disadvantage is that you have to get in the footwell to plumb it. Not bad when you have access holes during the build process, but very difficult to get to once the body is on.

In my case I added power brakes so the master cylinder was already outside the footbox. Also, I’m doing electrical now and trying to avoid mounting anything deep in the foot box because it is so hard to get to.

Thank you. I saw your build but as you said, you run them outside. It's complicated, nobody has the same design . And a lot of pictures don't have the extended footbox.
I will run them inside, it's just a pain to make and install lines inside the foot area.... (including valve, T, pressure sensor)

Routing brake lines inside the chassis makes them less vulnerable in a minor accident.

Here are some photos of my brake lines at my front wheels. I ran my lines inside the foot box for the front and the clutch and rear brake lines run on the outside.
