Also had the top cover plate gasket replaced, I know it’s new but I can’t believe they are still using cork gaskets, it was weeping as can be seen from some of the original photos.

Very nice. That's the same clutch slave setup I have on my car. Nary a problem with it now since 2007.

I really should drive down the road a little ways and see your car.

Saturday I got the transmission bolted to the engine but not after some hard work. It seems when I pulled the clutch pilot tool out I pulled the pilot bearing out of the back of the crank shaft so I had to pull the bell housing and clutch to get to the pilot bearing and re-install. Note to self, bell housing and clutch cannot be removed unless the engine is out. By 2 PM transmission was in and shifter cables installed. Sunday I got oil in and headers re-installed, set the ride height, measured the drive shaft lengths and emailed Fran to get the drive shaft coming. I got the clutch stainless hose ordered and it should be here tomorrow so Tuesday I should have that installed and clutch working.

A test drive will happen when the drive shafts arrive. No I don't know how long that will be!

Major things remaining;
Install firewall cover and seats.
Cut side door louvers in.
Cut in spare tire access door in rear clam shell.
Install mirror's.
Mount marker lights.
Install drive shafts.
Drive.

Getting close! The Cobra is ready for me to pick up and I told the painter I would like to drop off the Mk IV and pick up the Cobra at the same time. He is fine with that so maybe we can trade cars in a couple weeks. David is really looking forward to painting this car.

By the way I measured the top of the spider with the car setting at ride height and it measured 38".

Good build Don - keep on going what you doing!

Don, I hate to bust your bubble - but your plates from "my plates" are not legal. You will get only Custom Vehicle plates.

The law has changed as of February 2014. I was the first one going through this process to get an Assembled Vehicle Title.

Drive shafts came Monday so tonight I went for a short drive down the street. Learning how to drive on the right side and a new transmission shift pattern.

Looking back through your thread. Can you share what gearing your ZF has? You happy with it?

I'm happy with first and reverse gears so far :laugh: that's all I have used going down the block and back. I did have it up on stands and shifted through all the gears so everything works and no strange noises.
The gearing is as follows,
Diff. 3.78
1st 2.23
2nd 1.47
3rd 1.04
4th .846
5th .62
That's what I went with knowing I have a high torque engine that is not going to be running 7000 RPMs. It will get me up the driveway and down the highway as fast as I want to go. During the days when I was deciding what gearing to order I ran some spreadsheets on different combination to see shift points etc.
So with 25.6" dia. tires I'll run at 2160 RPM at 70 MPH in 5th gear and top speed of 195 MPH at 6000 RPM. I'm not planning on testing the top speed limits.

There you have it.

Nice. I do like a good highway cruising gear.

I would love to see that car blasting down the straights near top speed though.

Rick, I think of my car as four Harley's with loud pipes. You will hear me coming if not feel your car start vibrating. It's safer that way.
