My question is how do you identify if you have a 302, 351w, or 351c? Thank you Jim

Easiest way is probably the casting code. Try a Google search on FOrd casting code - there should be some pages out there that can tell you what codes were used on what blocks.

The 351C looks nothing like the 302 or 351 Windsors.
Dead giveaway for the Cleveland are the canted valves.
Another easy clue is the fuel pump mount is on the block.
The Windsor family is on the timing cover.

Hi Jim,

My 289 has the letters 66 (1966) and 289 in the casting on the cylinder heads as well as a casting number C5AE-E.
