Re: GTP 1079 "Accident 1968 Lemans"
Very much so, but it's a sad history. The driver never recovered from his injuries and committed suicide about six months later.
But the car lives on and it's great to see it being used so much, and so well.
I don't know if the altered lines of the body (the nose and tail droop much lower than other cars and the roof isn't as flat) is an accident or done on purpose, and I don't care! It's just great to see it out there running hard!
Thank you Mike,
We are starting a new restoration of 1079.
With the help of Ronnie Spain, Paul Fleming will do that work on the car.
In advance we had done some measure work. The roofline is not the problem.
The front and the tail and the doors are wrong.
The company who has done this work, they had made moldes from the original parts, had done a bad job. It seems that they have bought the parts anywhere and told to have made moldes.
Nevertheless 1079 will be back at goodwood in march, le mans and spa 6 hours.
By the way we have made a metalurgical test report and
certification of the chassis at the TU Aachen and it is the original from 68.
We will create a homepage of 1079.
Ronnie Spain and Franco Varani have made a dossier of about mre than 100 pages with history, results, the certification aso.
