The Shirley Sharrod Affair

Jim, One butthead with a sign. Planted? Words like "alleged", "higher probability", are just that, words. I could say that you have an alleged higher probability to be a welfare, heathcare, socialist sympathizer, but does that make you that? Also Newsweek is about as left leaning as it gets!

Gee Al, there appears to be more than one "but head"

Do we know who this guy is, where the photo was taken, and who supplied the photo? If not, then I guess we are back to the Breitbart story, except on the other foot.

Is this racist? Sounds to me more like descent.

Do you remember all of those pictures of Dubya while he was president? How were those classified?

This the the guy!!!

Dale Robertson, a Tea Party activist who operates TeaParty.org, is getting stung for an old photo — taken at the Feb. 27, 2009 Tea Party in Houston — in which he holds a sign reading “Congress = Slaveowner, Taxpayer = Niggar.”
After the ResistNet listerv promoted “Liberty Concerts” to be held by TeaParty.org, a source passed on this photo of Robertson, after the jump.

Jim, where in the hell do you get the idea (and the proof) that the Tea Party is racist?
Posted by Al,

Domtoni, this was in response to Als question about "where in the hell do you get the idea......

There are many more examples I can post if you continue to to question that elements of the tea party are racest.

Sure, one can search and find all sorts of websites, and some of them made jokes about the sign as being a miss spelled word, and therefore softens some blow. It doesn't show him carrying it.

The comments I have read surrounding the sign on various blogs, and these were far more destructive than a misspelled sign that wasn't being forced in anyone's face.

Had this been of significance, an apology would have been expected, and forthcoming. But nothing has, in fact, you made me aware of this at your post.

Domtoni,

This guy is a tea bag leader, he runs TeaParty.org!

You can make all the excuses you want, just do not try and tell us that elements of the tea party are not racist.

This is why Breitbart went looking for ways to show the NAACP is racist as well, when he could not find any he made some up!

He was also booted out of the event for that sign. So its not like he was hoisted up by a cheering crowd, instead he was ousted.

Jim,
There are racists in the NAACP, LULAC, Move ON.org, and others. They are just as guilty as this boob was, but no one has painted the whole group as racist just because there are a few Rev. Wrights amoung them. A radical rascal is just that no matter which party that he proposes to support. I say let's get them all out of these organizations including the Tea Party, and let the more coherent speakers debate. At least the Tea Party leadership denounced this type of bigot behavior. When are we going to see that from these other guys?

Gary,

I agree with you 100%, their are racists in all these groups, but it seems that only the tea baggers are stupid enough to bring big signs with them (like they are proud of it)

This only came up because Mr Breitbart was trying to show that the NAACP was as racist as the tea baggers and Al got all pissed and asked for proof that their were racists in the tea bag party.

Al there is a huge amount of proof about tea baggers, it is not neccasary to make it up like Mr Breitbart!

Jim, I find it interesting that there is nothing on Teaparty.org that is anything like the picture you posted, or any reference to the N word or racist theme. Stange huh?

I actually agree with both of you. Given the demographics, there are probably individual fanatics, racists, misogynists in the NAACP and others that have attended Tea Party events. To quote the NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous' written statement "We take no issue with the Tea Party movement. We believe in freedom of assembly and people raising their voices in a democracy. What we take issue with is the Tea Party's continued tolerance for bigotry and bigoted statements." The local St. Louis Tea Party participants had an all-hands-on-deck response to the NAACP's plan. The group drafted a resolution of its own condemning the civil rights group for reducing itself to a "bigoted" and "partisan attack dog organization." So what does all that mean?

It is unfair and inaccurate to imply that the Tea Party is by it's nature racist.
Unlike the NAACP, the tea party is a movement, not an organization so to characterize the whole by the isolated few is as inaccurate and unfair as to characterize Ms Sharrod by the first few minutes of her NAACP speech. The undeniable themes at the NAACP are race and the theme of the Team Party Movement is the growth of government and loss of individual liberty.
For Jim's benefit here are the 10 agenda items that it encourages congressional candidates to follow: please note race is absent.

Identify constitutionality of every new law: Require each bill to identify the specific provision of the Constitution that gives Congress the power to do what the bill does. (82.03%)
Reject emissions trading: Stop the "cap and trade" administrative approach used to control pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants. (72.20%)
Demand a balanced federal budget: Begin the Constitutional amendment process to require a balanced budget with a two-thirds majority needed for any tax modification. (69.69%)
Simplify the tax system: Adopt a simple and fair single-rate tax system by scrapping the internal revenue code and replacing it with one that is no longer than 4,543 words -- the length of the original Constitution. (64.9%)
Audit federal government agencies for constitutionality: Create a Blue Ribbon taskforce that engages in an audit of federal agencies and programs, assessing their Constitutionality, and identifying duplication, waste, ineffectiveness, and agencies and programs better left for the states or local authorities. (63.37%)
Limit annual growth in federal spending: Impose a statutory cap limiting the annual growth in total federal spending to the sum of the inflation rate plus the percentage of population growth. (56.57%)
Repeal the health care legislation passed on March 23, 2010: Defund, repeal and replace the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. (56.39%)
Pass an 'All-of-the-Above' Energy Policy: Authorize the exploration of additional energy reserves to reduce American dependence on foreign energy sources and reduce regulatory barriers to all other forms of energy creation. (55.5%)
Reduce Earmarks: Place a moratorium on all earmarks until the budget is balanced, and then require a 2/3 majority to pass any earmark. (55.47%)
Reduce Taxes: Permanently repeal all recent tax increases, and extend permanently the George W. Bush temporary reductions in income tax, capital gains tax and estate taxes, currently scheduled to end in 2011. (53.38%)

As for me, if you want insight into the NAACP and racial politics read “My Grandfather’s Son,” a memoir by Justice Clarence Thomas.

Jim, that fact that you want to use a sexually offensive term in relation to the Tea Party movement is distasteful and uncalled for. It's also apparent that once again Al got you goat.

Definitions of pissed off on the Web:
  • annoyed: aroused to impatience or anger
Veek, I do not knowhat planet you are from, but here on Earth pissed off has nothing to do with sex, offensive or othewise.

The term meaning anger, offends you but not:
