SPF GT Clutch Pedal Stop

This modification creates a clutch stop to limit the travel of the clutch pedal. The reason for this is that when using an internal McCloud type throwout bearing, it is possible to configure it such that the pedal throw will exceed the travel distance of the bearing causing the seals to leak. Proper installation of the bearing will prevent this from occurring but this is a simple safety measure. It also aids in quicker shifts because you reduce the throw significantly. There is a boss casted into the pedal assembly for just such a stop. This boss can (and was originally) be used for a foot rest. You would need tiny feet to use a foot rest I would think.

Start with a 2” by 2” piece of 1/4” thick plate steel and a 4 “ long 5/16 diameter bolt. Drill a hole in the plate as shown, then round the corners of the bolt (and plate) and weld the bolt head to the plate.

Make a spacer about 1 3/4” long and 1” in diameter. The actual length may vary from application to application due to the way the throwout is installed. Make the spacer length based on good clutch release and engagement.

Lastly, I powder coated all the parts. Find a thread on home powder coating elsewhere on this forum.

It is simple to fine tune the pedal throw using washers. Use a Nylock type nut to secure the stop. One other note of caution. It is very tight working on the back side of the pedal assembly so be careful not to drop any of the parts back down below and behind the assembly. They can be retrieved with a magnet but not easily. Another option is to do this mod with the air conditioning hardware under the front hood removed. This will take and extra hour or so but can eliminate a great deal of frustration.
