Maserati Merak?

JR

The mid-engined Merak used the Bora bodyshell, but with the extra space offered by the smaller engine used to carve out a second row of seats, suitable for children or very small adults.

Guess I ain't getting my sister in laws back there for a trip across the country.... Should make for a nice quiet and peaceful drive :lipsrsealed::lipsrsealed:

OK guys....its a two seater....mid engine , transverse mounted drivetrain .

The cabin is indeed a second gen Eclipse or Talon....this allows us to ahve a very OEM interior, weather stipping seals, side impact in the oem doors...they are used in their entirity. All cross car, roof beams and headers are also maintained.

The chassis sections are bolt on...no welding required....75% of the attachment points dont even need drilling as they are already part of the OEM structure ...the other 25% require holes to be drilled ...the rear chassis incorporates a roll hoop with seat belt cross brace and also a diagonal brace to keep the track day scrutineers happy...

As usual we will be making all the suspension parts in house and they will more than upto the task of big hp. and be fully adjustable as always.

The DSM aftermarket allows massive opportunity for personal engine and interior customisation without Superlite having to provide the aftermarket support.

Front and rear luggage compartments are incorporated into the design. ..sorry not golf club caddy size but certainly making the car an everyday machine. ..We have test fitted a 6'5" driver without issue.

We are planning on offering a donor prep service also, meaning that a customer can order the kit and a prepared safety cell directly from Superlitecars.....of a kit only purchase allowing the handy guys to save money and get a deeper involvement into their initial build.

Very cool! Would you let us know which transmission are potential candidate? I am assuming it's 2G T/E/L transmission mounts, and specifically the FWD one? Had the automatic transmission ever been discussed on the drawing board?

Great, I need to dig out my spare head and block and send it off to the machine shop, but now I have to decide which build I am going for, high rev? high torque? or a realiable original with high compression? hmm... decision decision decision... very exciting.

Thanks for taking us out of the dark fran :).. I've been looking around and see that carbon fiber doors are also available for this 2g by advan....

I have a fwd trans sitting in the garage now due to an awd swap :) Iam still a bit baffled at how the engine will bolt up to existing holes in the rear, I've seen an engine mounted there before however it involved extensive fabrication and welding.

Are you going to offer this kit in stages like the slc so one can purchase/build as they go?

I didnt say the engine would bolt up to existing holes in the chassis.....I said the chassis section would bolt up to the OEM chassis...the engine will then bolt up to the new chassis section.....got me?

It will probably have a rear bolt-on frame that will hold the engine, trans, suspension, rear body, etc. The front will probably have the same set up, but with a "large boot for things".

Edit: Fran beat me to it.

Edit #2: It's simple. New front RCR frame::gen 2 eclipse cabin::new rear RCR frame w/ drivetrain. Sexy new body over the whole thing. Easy enough?

Fran, this looks very exciting.

I can not wait for more details on the chassis mating to the center tub section and pictures of the body as they progress in development.

Very exciting..............

Top secret mounting system......wink...we use long steel things with spiral grooves that have a funny hex shape on one end...

Thanks for the update. This is going to be sweet and just in time for me to need something like this to cure a mid life crisis:laugh:

Any chance you'll offer the build instuctions for sale separately from the kit so guys with a small shop that need to prep a donor before everything else arrives or for those that just want to look over them first before making a decision.

Ok Got it now :) Looking over some other rules, I see that this type of kit car / Eclipse conversion is also eligible for competition in Formula Drift as the GSX came with AWD and FD allows cars that are AWD to be converted to RWD in order to compete.

Although I must admit I know very little about drifting and if this layout would be capable of being competitive.

Thats an answer to all the dsm owners looking to utilize the 4g63 in a vehicle familiar to them for drifting.

Styling on this project looks awesome! Combined with the incredible chassis Fran builds, this thing is gonna sell like banana hotcakes!

Wonder if I could graft all this to a first gen Audi TT tub? :D (no offense to the Eclipse, I just love those Audi interiors and that roofline on the coupes....)

Jeff-

Was mulling over interiors for the car, here are the stockers:

And here were some of the more modified [for better or worse] interiors:

While although this door mechanism appears odd on an eclipse, it might really add to the GTA:

Lastly, with sizable attention, I could imagine one (that really would like) their interior to be Supercar worthy making it look like this [Mansory Maserati GranTurismo]:

I'm going to play Fran on this one and say more-than-likely no.

The stock black and tan interior looks pretty appealing. On the other hand, the Lamborghini doors would make it look stupid. Why would a guy ruin a car by putting doors on it that weren't originally designed for the car? The "GTA" doesn't look like a car that would have Lamborghini doors. And besides, with the new body cladding on, I don't think they would work.

I think us Canadians this is an excellent option, as starting with the Eclipse means its not a "kit car" for importing purposes! None of that 15 year garbage etc.

Does that imply that you can then register it as an Eclipse? Just curious. In California you can't do that since the finished car no longer resembles the "original" so they treat it as a whole new car (type "special construciton")

Seems you didn't get the joke :D
