GT40 kit for $17,500 in the USA

Tim.
to answer your question about rear windows.
Most of the earlier kits used a Lexan/Plexi rear window and that is the route that I will be taking.
Our moulds are original style(no glass in the race cars) and do not have a provision for a heavy glass rear window and seal.
I am also planning on using the same material for the rear cabin window .

There are obviously some more extras that we will be offering along the way like the billet front upright. Exhaust systyems too,but those are still being sourced to bring the customer the best deal we can and keep the mantra of affordable alive.....
Good catch by the way.....
Hope this helps .....

That helps a bunch. I wasn't so much concerned that it be glass vs plexi but having never been next to a 40 I didn't know how complex a shape that rear "glass" is. If you are planning to have people source plexi/lexan then it must be a fairly simple shape to bend it to. Am I correct?

It is not really very bent.....using thick enough material like 3/16" it will create its own arc and not oilcan/drum.
It is a very simple shape and contour..

From the positive comments above, it looks like Fran is going to be under big demand to produce his gt40 kits. Top stuff and long may it continue.

Provocatively, partricularly to cynics who have commented elsewhere, I just saw a Mini Cooper S Convertable for sale at my BMW garage for roughly £17,500 on the road. With the dollar doing its stuff right now, that equates to about $34,000. With Fran's pricing starting at $17,500, it appears that he too can produce a GT40 replica of good standing at Mini Cooper prices.

Fran, look out for journalists wanting to use your cars for articles.

Good luck with you venture.

If you want your car to look nice, forget about using flat sheet for the rear window. You need to form it or it won't hold up. Fran Kress sells a nicely formed unit out of a thick material and he will supply it oversize. That way you can trim to fit any replica. If you don,t form it with heat it will sag or get waves in it over time. They were under $300.00. If you would like one in glasscheck out CAV South Africa, MDA etc.

Hi Bud.
funny you mention the rear window.
Since posting about the rear window we have been doing the work on all the plexi parts and the rear window is under development as we speak...
I know Fran quite well and he often has parts for sale but his supply time can sometimes be a little long.

My tail does not have a provision for a glass rear window due to the fact it is an original tail and not a replica of a replica.
The replica glass windows are a different size to an original opening too.
The original cars never had a glass window in race trim. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Fran,

Are you going to provide parts to those of us that are building other kinds of kits? (Things such as wind shields, side windows, headlights, tail lights, clip closures, gas tank caps and so on.)

Thanks,
